Is snapless bad???

Hay there. I pick up my 2002 xlt on March 28th and I am looking for an extang tonno. I went to order the Saber snapless but the salesman said that he wouldn't get the snapless because in the summer when it expands in the heat you can't adjust the tension and it will blow off. What is the deal? I don't mind the snaps but I would rather the snapless if it is going to work. I told the guy I had to tap the fountain of knowledge (F150online.com) before I decided. Thanks for any help.

I am in the same boat. I want a cover, but I am hearing pros and cons on the different types (Snaps-Snapless) and I may have the answer????????!!!!!!!!

ExTang has a "full tilt" cover that is new. It is a no drill install and can be lifted off by one person OR rolled up for that "unexpected" big load. My parts guy ordered one for himself, I will call him later and see how he liked it. It is alittle more money (about $100 more) but I think it may be worth it.

Just talked to him, it is not yet installed but he said he has done many and likes them.

Just my 2 cents!!!!!

:cool

I'm going snapless. There are two main players, from what I've learned
so far. One expensive. One not. What do you guys think of these?

I had this cover on my truck for about 11 months now ,
No problem with it at all ,I have taken it on and off when its 30 Degrees out , no problem , and thats something that hard to do with snaps covers .
I also have gone thru the car wash with it on , they use very powerful fans to dry the truck , it never blow off.
I do Wish I had a one that lifted .

Angry

I had an Extang Sabre (snappless) on my 1999 SC and it did come loose in hot weather. It was replaced with a "new improved" model that stayed on but the corners curled and looked bad. This was replaced with a Black Max (snaps) that did the job.
Please keep in mind that this was 2.5 years ago and I am sure Extang has made improvements since then.

I did not listen to the dealer when he said "I do not trust the snappless models" and wound up with a snapped model.

Thanks for all the quick responces. Hay Lee , or anyone with a black max, my guy suggested the black max also. Does the black coating scratch off easily?

Thumbs up

The paint stayed on the snaps well, I had no scratchs in 2 years.

There were no problems with the Black Max except the snaps were not as convenient as the Sabre.

The Black Max and the Sabre both did not fit the curve if the side rail, the frame sets on the box as a square. This may have changed since 1999 but you should ask before you buy because while it did not look bad it does not have that class look that I wanted, thats just my opinion.
