New Tires & Wheels

When you guys put new tires and wheels on the Screw, do you do anything regarding the recalibration of the speedo?

Great question.....because I think my speedo is not calibrated correctly now. I keep seeing posts (and a pic to prove it) that SCrews are traveling 75-80+ MPH at 2000 to 2200 rpm. No way am I traveling at that speed at 2000 RPM, in fact if I'm going done the highway at 80 MPH and someone I know is behind me (son, brother wife, etc.) their vehicles say 72 or so. I regularly travel the highway with a friend of family member following during ski weekends, etc. and the traffic passes by if I travel 70-72 MPH, and everyone tells me I'm traveling slow..........

Can the speedo be calibrated????

Yes a speedo can be calibrated. Not sure how to do it on a Screw, but on my 70 Chevelle I put a ratio adapter on the tranny cable.

I was curious because alot of people change tires on their trucks but I have not seen anyone discuss the effects to the speedo.

The re-calibration has to be done either by the dealership or via an aftermarket chip like the Superchip. There is also a specific electronic unit to re-cal the speedo called Tru-speed (I think).

You only need to have your speedo recalibrated if you change the overall diameter of your tire & wheel combo. My tire/wheel combo is ~1" taller than stock, which makes me ~3-4% off (funny thing is, w/ my factory setup it said I was running faster than I actually was, whereas now I am actually running exactly right). I have no problems w/ shifting or anything else. I wouldn't worry about recalibrating anything unless you are like 5% or greater off. These new trucks don't use a gear to recal, it has to be done in the computer. Superchips apparently can do it now.
