Suspension lift or Body lift?
I have a 4x4 Screw that already sits nice and high...but I've been thinking of trading the stock P255/70R-16 for slightly larger ones (probably LT285/75R-16). In addition, I want a small lift - just so the bigger tires don't look "crammed" into the wheel well. The larger tires themselves will give the truck a slightly (< 1") higher stance, but I'd like something even higher without making a radical change in the appearance of the truck. Question is, does anyone here have a 2-3" body lift and why did they get it and how do they like it (AND how much did they pay for it)???
I'm pretty sure the body lift is considerably cheaper than the suspension lift, which is also a factor (although I don't know how much cheaper). The Desert Rat location here wants $2200 for a 4" suspension lift (too much, too big) and $750 for the larger tires. What does a non-motorhead like myself do???

FYI,
A body life on the SCREW is like pulling teeth. You have to rip up the carpet in the cab to get to the body screws. This makes a 3" body lift cost as much as a suspension.
I would advise you to get FABTECH 3" spindles in the front and 2" blocks in the back. This will give the truck the look you are going for and will be about $1100 or less installed. That's including the alignment. This system is definately the way to go.
The only problem is that I am not sure if spindles will work on 4X4. You will need to ask your local shop about that. I think that they are about $650.00 for the kit at http://www.truckperformance.com/

I just received my 3" PA body lift kit.....I read thru the instruction booklet a few times (it has lots of photos), and it does not look that bad.
Most people on this message baord recommend a self-install because to pay for it is a waste of money....I am going to install it myself....
I am extimating a 2-day jaunt, but none of it looks hard....carpets do NOT have to be RIPPED out, though they do have to be moved back from the edge of the doors to get to a few of the body mounts....
I may recant my views later, but I see it as a relatively simple (though long) process.....just follow the photos....the intructions are very detailed and laid out......

My lift
I have 3" Performace Accessories body lift on my supercrew with 33x12.50's on my stock rims, pics are in my signature, under Photo Gallery, i love it. The lift installed was 699.00, with the lift and tires it was 1700.00, i'm very very happy.
Sorry if I seemed harsh. I was not trying to bash body lifts.
A body lift is not a hard thing to do. It just takes time and effort and I would be afraid to lift any of my carpet on a new truck. I would end up ripping something. You can even do a Screw body lift in your garage with normal tools. But I haven't tried.
I just think that for the money (If you are going to have someone else install it) the spindle lifts are the way to go. To each their own. I will probably end up doing both anyway.
