How much drop on the reciever?

I have a 02 xlt 4x4 on order. I ordered it with the two package. The salesman told me I could'nt order a reciever unless I knew the drop that I would need. Isn't there a standard drop. I will be towing a vintage car to shows but the trailer will be either rented or borrowed. Will I need to get a reciever for each application if the tongue height has slight variations? Thanks

You should consider an adjustable ball mount. You can change the height for different trailers and different vehicles.

These are from Draw-Tite, but there are many others.

If I had to do it all over again, I would go this way. I have at least 5 ball mounts sitting in my garage.

I use a Reese 4" drop receiver to haul my 4-wheeler and friend's boat with my '01 4x4 ORP SCrew. If you will be hauling different trailers, the adjustable would definitely be the way to go.

No, there is no standard, what you need to do is make sure that your trailer tows "level". Your rig will handle better and be safer the more level your trailer tows. Better a little high at the tongue, than low. The adjustables are nice, but if you gind the right receiver for your trailer, you can save the expense. I have a 4x4 and use a 4 inch drop to tow my boat. Just check it out with your trailer level and you should be able to tell what drop, if any, you need to hook up. And note that if you need the receiver higher, you can flip a 2 inch drop over.
