help....my truck stutters!
Anyone have hesitation when accelerating? I mean really nailing the pedal, not feathering it. When hitting it pretty hard, I get a lot of hesitation before acceleration. I've only installed a k&n filter so I'm wondering if a fipk will help. The problem happens in third and fourth gear. Just wondering if anyone else has the same problem.
Superchips (and others) claim to remove a factory-designed delay in throttle response. Gale Banks (Ottomind chip) claims the delay can be several seconds. Perhaps it is this Ford "feature" that you are experiencing? I know the throttle response on both of my trucks is a little slow. Neither are chipped.
I had a slight acceleration hesitation on my 1999. I didn't notice it (it was subtle and I usually notice things). My friend is the GM of a dealership, and when my truck needs to go in for service, we swap cars... He told me he noticed the hesitation and had the shop look into it also. There was a noticable difference when he brought it back. If it is under warranty, take it to the dealer and have it checked. Don't ask me what they did, I don't know, I never see my bills.
The Super Chip will help this a lot! When I hit the gas the only delay in time is the downshift, and that is a lot faster with the chip. So you get about 1-1.5 seconds of delay when you hit the gas for the computer to shift it down and then off you go!!!
This is why many people like the manual trans, so you can tell the trans what to do before you step on it or while you step on it. The transmission and computer can't predict what your going to do, they just know what your doing.
I do wish that Ford would make there stock shifting program more responsive, but for you, sounds like you need a chip. The chip does require 91 octane but you can get a custom programed chip that will improve the shifting and still run on 87.
Go over to the Computer Chips forum and chat with others there.
I have had my chip for almost 3 months and still love it. Worth every cent, just a bit over $200

The delay does seem to last a couple of seconds. It's weird, my truck kind of lunges after acceleration...My buddy spilled hot coffee on himself because the truck lurched forward after hesitating.I guess it was insensitive of me to ask if any spilled on the seat. I will visit my dealership to see if anything can be done.

I have the straight though muffler with the 3 1/2" slant tip. Looks good and sounds great. Cheaper than most other brands and your supporting a local company.
As far as the warrenty goes, no you are not voiding it. There is a law that states after market parts cannot void a warrenty unless the warenty provider proves so. So your dealer can't say "well you have a chip so we won't fix it" but it is highly recomended to remove the chip before servicing, as that will mess up the computer diagnostics and will show no codes or the wrong ones.
I got my cat-back put on at Express Muffler, they did a great job and the price was right not much more than $300 for the whole thing, parts and installation.
