go with the door sticker. It is more current than the owners manual and takes into account all features on the truck that were installed at the factory. This takes into account all suspension and tire issues.

The owners manual may not take into account the specific tires on your truck (may have been printed when Wilderness tires were still installed at the factory)

By the same advise, inflate tires to what the door sticker says, not the sidewall.

The door sticker states GVWR- not tow rating.

Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is the maximum amount that the TRUCK itself can weigh- this figure includes cargo, tongue-weight, passengers, fuel, etc.

Tow rating is the maximum weight of the trailer that the truck can tow. To hit this maximum, you'll need either a 5th-wheel, goosneck, or load-distributing hitch setup.

There is also a figure called Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR). That number is the maximum weight for the truck and trailer added together.

Your door placard gives your GVWR as 6500 lbs.
The 2002 towing guide lists the maximum trailer towing capacity as 5,700 lbs for a truck with your drivetrain.
The GCWR is listed as 11,000 lbs.

The best thing to do is to go weigh your truck when it is full of fuel and loaded with all the gear & people that will normally be in the truck when you tow the trailer. Then, using the actual weight of the truck, figure out the actual maximum amount that you can tow without exceeding ANY of the above three numbers. You may be suprised at how little you can actually tow without exceeding Ford's ratings!
