ford premium sound?
ford premium sound?
Does anyone know what the OEM speakers are in the doors of the supercrews with their preimum sound system and are they two way or not?
I have been reading alot of posts that say a decent set of aftermarket speakers will really improve the stereo sound. I am not an audiofile and was wondering if anyone that is not real big into stereo systems has replaced their speakers and if so did you really notice any difference? I don't mind spending the money if I know I will get something from it.

i didn't get the premium setup because I heard it was just as crappy as the basic stock stereo, and I'm not into cd changers that are tucked away behind the rear seat...
I replaced my front speakers with boston acoustic rc820 components (same as rc620 but in 5x7 frame so there's no cutting required), an MTX amp and panasonic head unit and the difference is night and day. I ran it for about a week before the subbox.net box arrived and I got the sub installed, which rounded it out nicely bass-wise...
photos of the setup are in my profile link below...

I replaced my factory speakers just after Christmas with a set of 4 Cerwin-Vega Stealth 3-Way 6x8 speakers. I have the factory 6-disc changer in the console but was very dissapointed you didn't get better speakers or a more powerful head unit.
I didn't want to spend the money on a head-unit or amp so I did 4 speakers for only about $160.
I can say I am incredibly impressed with the difference. I have great bass now and can really hear a difference in the overall quality of the music. The speakers are really easy to do yourself and when I ordered from Crutchfield they include the necessary adapters to plug your new speakers into the factory plugs.
I would suggest this as an inexpensive mod that gets great results. Everyone that rides in my truck now comments on how good it sounds.

Also for those who like to listen to music loud, you should get some bass blockers for the speakers, at least on the front so that the distortion will be a lot lower. You can leave the back speakers full range so you can still have a bit of that lower bass. Remeber the speakers in your car are NOT designed to play the frequencies below 100~130 Hz or somewhere around there, also you could spend a bit more for an active crossover but that would defeat the purpose of a budget upgrade.
My system isn't too bad (nothing compared to my old system of $3,500) I just can't turn the volume up very loud without distortion and there isn't much of a low end as I have the bass turned down to keep it from being so muddy.
One benifit that I have with my stock system is that I was going deaf (what! speak LOUDER!!!) with my old system and now my ears don't hurt from the high SPLs...
