Question Rear Sway Bar for S-crew?

Has anyone put a rear sway/stabilizer bar on their 4x4 Screw? If so, how do you like it? Did it make the ride harsher? Where can I get one? Will the one on the Lighting fit?

Someone on here has installed a Hellwig swaybar, but I don't remember who it was, but I think it was on a 2wd. I am pretty sure the Lightning swaybar won't fit - I think you have to get one that fits the Expedition. Maybe they will see this post and respond.

LightningCrew is correct...the Lightning rear sway bar won't fit on a SCrew.
Pick up a JCWhitney catalog or call them (800.529.4486): $124.95 for a Hellwig SportTech rear sway bar (50% off on shipping right now). I have one on my 2WD...experienced only a slightly rougher ride driving straight, but immense gains on cornering. Fairly easy to install with 2 guys. By myself, I fumbled around for about 1 1/2 hours to get it lined up properly. The bar installs above and slightly in front of the axle to permit clearance for the brake lines/sensors/shock mounts. I installed the "bar-to-axle" brackets at the corners of the bar where each side makes the 90-degree turn forward.

I've heard that rear stabilizer bars and offroading don't mix. If you put it on, you need to remove it before you go offroading where your drivetrain gets articulated, such as when driving through deep ruts or over rocks.

I have a Hellwig Rear Anti-sway bar on my SCrew; works great. I've loaded it up with 2000 lbs. of sand for the garden - the rear stayed almost perfectly level around corners. I would highly recommend it for better handling for carrying and towing!

Thanks for the info. I don't do any serious off-roading. But I do pull a 6000 lb car trailer; which I think would feel better in the turns with the sway bar.
Coincidentally, I just received the JCW catalogue. So it looks like $125 and an hour of work.

Better check JCW's 50% off shipping closely. Their website says it's only for orders over $150. Unless you buy more than the sway-bar, it'll cost you another $19.00.

I just ordered the Hellwig rear bar for my '02 Screw from Summit Racing. Total price to my door- $137.14.

Cool. I didn't see the bar in Summit's catalogue, but I have to get some other stuff from Summit anyway.
Thanks for the tip.

Thumbs up Summit rocks!

I just got a new catalog today and the Hellwig is listed on page 210. The part number is HEL-7621.

I ordered mine via the Internet. Just type the part # into the search field and it'll come up. Have purchased several items on-line and never had any trouble.

Thumbs up

NOMO:
Thanks again.
When I saw your post/email, I was looking in Summit's truck Catalogue (first one I've received) but it's not in there!!
I found it on their WEB site & was reading the Part Detail that says it won't fit the HD posi. rear ends. This must be the older F150/250s. Since your SCrew is also a 5.4 with LS and it fits.
The only thing about Summit that irks me is their handling charge. They say shipping is free but they always tack on the $7.95-even if you order a valve cap!
BTW, how long did it take you to install the bar?

I saw the * regarding the HD axle with LS so I called Hellwig and asked them directly. The guy there assured me that the 7621 would fit a Super Crew. Plus, I was given the same part # by someone who had the bar installed... see a few posts down.

I've not yet recieved the bar. Ordered it Thursday night (late) and got a confirmation that it shipped on Friday. Based on the tracking number, the scheduled delivery date is 2/28. However, when I ordered the bar for my F350 a couple of months ago, it got here in 3 days.

Oh yeah-
I think Summit "handles" stuff too much. I just look at it like it's $8 shipping... still less than 1/2 the price of JCW. I could see where it sucks though- especially on a $8 set of valve caps.

This is wild!
JCW paper catalogue prices the sway bar at $124.95 less 10% promo/coupon offer, plus $18.20 shipping to my address.
$130.66 total

JCW WEB site prices the bar at $139.95 less the 10% discount offer, plus $14.99 shipping:
$140.95 total

This makes no sense to me. The cost of entering an internet transaction is a fraction of the cost of talking to one of their sales rep via the 800#.
Yet they mention/show the 10% coupon only in the Catalogue which has a $15 lower price to begin with.

I guess I'll stick with what I've had success with before-Summit.

Question SCREW Rear Sway Bar

BruceScrew & Nomo:

Guys, I tried about a year ago to install a Hellwig rear Sway Bar I got from Summit Racing and could not get the D**N thing on after 2 hours of trying.

The bar interferred with the offset shocks mounting brackets on the rear axle. I rotated the bar above the Differential and under, and still couldn't get it to work. Moving the Bar rearward to miss the shock that mounts reaerward only caused the vertical rods to be off center of the mounting holes in the frame.

The only thing I could conclude was the bar Summit sent was the wrong model number.

Did any of you have similar problems? I see that many have installed the bar. While I can't disagree with you, am I missing an optional kit that comes with the Rear Sway Bar or something else?

Tray,

I first thought that I had the wrong Hellwig sway-bar too; didn't think it was the right part number. I called the tech support line; the guy said he installed five recently and told me exactly how I should proceed. The bar goes over the rear axle and forward so the mounting u-bolts where at a 45 degree angle. This worked just as he said. The directions are what through me off at first; went in fine and still workin!

See my reply in other thread. I would like to comment on the installation instructions though...

They are horrible. The two or three pictures are dark & fuzzy. What's worse is that there are no real written directions and no indication of which parts to use & where to use them. My kit had 4 U-bolts (two pairs of different sizes) and 4 end-links (two sets of different lengths). And be VERY careful when tightening the J-bolts as they will break if over-tightened.
