Question Cold Weather Question

Just came back from the mountains and had a problem with the cold weather/snow (single digits).
First, I was stuck for several minutes in the snow, while trying to get unstuck the wheels spun (while in 4x4) in the snow several times. When this happened the ABS light came on, I figured this was normal due to the wheels spinning but the light continued to stay on even after I was free from the snow. The light ended up turning off later when I turned the engine off, it has'nt come back on since. Is this normal for the ABS light?
Also, when I went to get into the truck the next morning the doors were frozen shut, it felt like the door handles would have snapped off if I pulled to hard. I ended up being able to pry one of the doors open. Do you guys in the mid west have problems with your doors getting stuck in the cold weather?

Thanks

Sorry about your problems man. Not sure about the ABS light thing, but I hear if you hold the brake down a bit with a little throttle the limited slip works better.
I lived in Michigan for 4 years and the freezing doors/handles was normal. I usually poured a little warm water on em and it freed up no problem. Not to sound like you don't know how to drive in the snow, but I had a small 2.4L FWD Mazda Protege in MI and never had problems in the snow. All I'm saying is your truck should be fine to handle the stuff.

I'm not exactly sure how the ABS wheel sensors work, but I'm thinking some snow got in there and caused the malfunction and when the snow melted or fell away, the light went off.

As far as the sticking doors go, moisture built up on the doors seal, apply a little silicone to the seals and the mating metal, that should keep the door from sticking even if it freezes.......boy, the things you learn living in New England....

As far as your ABS light, the ABS sensor is mounted very near a cogged ring and counts the cogs to determine wheelspeed. If you get foreign material in the gap between the sensor and the ring, it would think there was a problem and turn on the light.

If the light went off and is staying off, don't worry about it.

S'CrewLoose,

I usually just rub it them down the door seals with Armor-all that seems to work too. Plus it brings back the black color to the "rubber stuff", but somebody else told me about silicone too.
May try that for next winter. Thanks.

Never had the ABS problem and I have plowed snow with the front bumper more times than I care to think about. The only thing i notice is when getting out of the snow it takes an extra second to melt the snow on the brake pads and rotors, so it doesn't stop real quick.
