Darn Chevy's

What can I say, I am a performance minded individual. I was getting on the highway with a Chevy extended cab in front of me. I have the chip, and air force one. So I punched it and started to pull around the chevy, then he punches it . He passed me with no problem. Just when I think I'm doing something, I get my *** handed to me. Its times like this I wish I had a direct line to the individual at Ford responsible for the design of the motors. Anybody had any luck out running the chevys?

Your next mod should be a nice cat-back exhaust like the Magnaflow for your SCrew; mine works, looks, and sounds great. When I turn the overdrive off and punch it, I can pull hard fron any Chevy or Dodge for that matter. I had a Camero pass me a couple of weeks ago; he had it floored. I caught him pretty quick! I think he was quite suprised to see me on his bumper, especially by a 4X4 Ford Truck!

BBRANJEN,
I've read about twenty posts in different threads were you have bitched about being beaten or disappointed in the speed of your truck.
You did two things wrong, bought a 4x4 and at that a SCrew. The 4x4 will add weight and drag down your rear end hp, and the crew cab will add mucho weight.
If you wanted to race, why did you buy this vehicle? You should of bought a Lightning. These vehicle are designed to mainly be a SUV for hauling people and towing a load (and it does it quite well). They are just too heavy and not set up for this type of driving.
Also how many miles do you have on yours? Mine picked up speed and power after the 5000 mile mark. It seems to be getting stronger all the time.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I am just curious about this.
Cap

Capp brings up a good point. These trucks are HEAVY. Mine weighs in at a bit over 5,100 lbs dry. Add to that fuel, bodies, and other junk and we're getting real close to 3 tons. To add insult to injury, mine has 17" rims. That's not to mean my truck is slow or a dog. In fact, I'm more than pleased with the performance.

One point I should make is this. How the heck do you know what the other guy has under his hood? For all you know, the guy has a sleeper and it has a blower in it. A friend of mine has such a truck. Only a few of us know it's blown.

I will have to say that one thing the SCREW really NEEDS is the taller rear end like a 3.75 or 4.10. My friends Chevy has the 4.10 on his Chevy and I can keep up but can't pass until he hits about 80ish.

So with the 4.10 rear end I think the SCREW would do a hell of a better job passing a lot of things. And who cares about gas mileage, thats not why you bought this truck. If you care about gas mileage, go buy a geo or a little honda...

Look Capp, This post was to be positive overall, some of us do like performance. Just because its a screw, doesn't mean it can't perform. Example is the guy that first replied and said he ran down a chevy. I say hell yeah. By the way, mine is not a 4 x 4, its a 2 wheel drive. I consider Ford and Chevrolet the best vehicles in the industry. I think they should run about the same also. But they don't. Its not like I don't own a Ford, I do. That gives me the right to give my opinion about them. Sorry if I offend you guys for being a performance nut. But I will probably be that way for a long time. I just wanted to hear some kill stories against the Chevy ext. cabs which I consider equal in size and weight. Not all of us drive like grandma's out there. I do have a Mustang Gt for the extra fun factor. Just trying to have a little fun thats all Capp. If I have offended anybody I'm sorry.
Oh, I am just now getting close to that 5000 mile mark with a 5.4litre

This is the type of responses I like to read, Kudos to you dcovell. The fact that you hang with them is fantastic. Just because I got beat doesn't mean that I don't enjoy hearing other kill stories. Dcovell adds some insight for what he feels the screw needs to get that extra power. I am 38 years old and I flat out love performance out of what ever I drive. If it doesn't run good, I try to make it run good. And like the other guy stated, I don't know whats under the hood of the guy that beat me. I'd be willing to bet he had at least a hypertech on it. Its all in fun so guys, don't get your panties in a wad. Just looking for ways to get the screw moving. Sensative people need not read my post.

You have a valid point. And to tell you the truth, I'm pretty sure it had some mods on it. At least equal to what I have. The truck was slammed, he had aftermarket exhaust and it ran very well, but it didn't have a blower, he didn't beat me that bad. I have a buddy with a 3/4 ton chevy, We raced when I was completly stock. I kept up with him till I hit 2nd gear, then he just blew by me. I assume some of this was due to the ford having the rpms decrease after each shift. I will go hunt him down again this weekend and see how I do. Keep in mind that the chevy ext cab is about the same weight as these screws with the same motor size. Theres no reason they shouldn't hang with them. The chip was the best thing that happened to the screw.

No I wasn't offended, just worried.
I use to be just like you. I had a 86 Gt mustang that I used to race people in down the road. Till I saw a friend that I was racing go thru a brick wall that divided a neighborhood from the road. He wasn't killed but hurt.
As many times as you boast racing on the street, just be careful.
As per the truck part, these are heavy trucks and were not intended to be raced (neither were the Chevys) in stock form. Sure I take mine on the freeway and get on it up to cruising speed or to pass people at 70. And YES I wish it had a little bit more punch.
Most of my friends that have fast cars and trucks (mostly L's) go to the local track and either race or get timed.
Sorry to get your feathers ruffled.

Amen! You ever notice that no matter what you buy, they come out with something better about a month or two later. This would be a sweet vehicle to own. You would get the best of both worlds.

Just to comment on Capp's reply, I do take it to the track most of the time. The Chevy I had ran 10.2 in the eighth and the screw runs 10.7 in the eighth. When I'm getting on a highway like I did with the chevy to merge with traffic, whether I have it floored or not, I do not consider this all out racing. I don't speed all that much, I just like to get to the speed limit quickly. I do not condone street racing at all, but cant say that I haven't raced to the speed limit a time or two or three or....you get the message. Your right, you go 100 mph down the hwy, sooner or later something is going to happen. By the way, I'm not ruffled at the least. Just letting you know where I'm coming from
