Thumbs up

I raced 92-96? supercab with a 302, and he got wasted. The only reason I even tried was because he did a burnout before he lined up next to me. No talking was done beforehand, so I had no idea if he had any mods at all. We both jumped on it at the same time, and I left him sitting there. He kept going once I let off, and passed me, I guess so he could turn right It was one of those lavender/pink ones with the silver two tone paint. Who knows, maybe he was embarrassed about the color? LOL! BTW: Over here on Airline and Tidwell there is a used car dealer selling a first gen. L(in Houston) It's black, lowered, and still has the stock rims. Looks VERY clean,,,,,,98

My truck:
1998 Ext. cab shortbed
4x2, 4.6 liter
3:55 open diff.
Superchip, K&N fipk, true custom duals with 24" glasspacks.

What do you really want? Sure you can build almost anything. It's also just as sure you can't buy a 2002 stock truck that comes close to an L. Dollar for dollar you can't beat the L for what it is, the King of the Sport Trucks several years running. That has little to no relationship to being the fastest truck at some dragway on a saturday night. If you want a sport truck buy one, if ya want a hopped up pick-up build one, if ya want the fastest ride at the track, start looking at Kawasaki's.

Are gen 1 L's faster than gen 2 L's?

I still think it would be more fun to have a XLT that looks stock but is really pushing 800hp. Sure, the mpg's would suck but it would be fun.

Also, His truck isn't 4x4 as one person said.

The first gen. L's were fast in there time, but not as fast as the new gen. They had a 5.8(351) that was naturally aspirated if I remember correctly. Very tough looking also! Here's a good example of what they looked like,,,,,98

Read the whole thread before posting something!!!!

The owner of the truck (Beastie) came and corrected me saying it is a 5.0L V8.

His truck is also NOT a V6 counting it saies V8 on the side aswell as on the engine. I got a look under his hood and looking at the block you can see it is a V8 and not a V6!.

i really like that lifted truck, it looks mean as hell. the gen 1 l didn't excite me tho. i guess i am so used to looking at the gen 2's. right the gen 2 l's are faster. there are a couple of guys that live near by that own a shop and they have a gen 1 and 2. the 1 is hopped up like hell and just barely beats the gen 2 that is almost stock.

true about the correction but i was thinking the same thing. everyone knows a 4.9 is a inline 6 and a great engine at that.

i will agrre with ya on that. i have had plenty of trucks and my 2001 has a better turning radius then the older truck i own. but i will say that the older trucks fish tail a little better for making turns at high speeds. not that i need to do that anymore, but i figured it was worth telling.

Curt my Man

Tell me more about your 89 5.8
AT or Stick
Details like gears/reg cab bed size 4x4 or 4x2
Performance mods

I have a 93 SC AT 5.8 with 3.55s and a Gibson Cat Back and K&N set up

You must have SD rather than MAF like me so mods are very limited by computer response

You really taking on 5.4s and doing s job on them

Don't know if I could. I need MORE power

well, i have a 89 f150 4x4 reg cab short bed. 351w 5.8 with a k&n setup. c6 tranny w/ shift kit. no chip, faulty exhaust. i have to change the entire exhaust to pass an inspection in march. prob going to put headers on with a flowmaster 3" exhaust. might have to stay with single exhaust cause they won't put in a true dual. maybe i will travel to get it done. yeah we race about a mile or two here where i live in an industrial area. i get em all the at the line. there gears have to be 3.55's cause they can catch me at the end if i back off. if it was any longer they would get me.

the truck suprises me, it has ***** of steel. i will be going to ohio to be in the burn out contest in may. i can burn em for a block in NYC. i am sure i won't win tho. but it will be fun. curt
