Seat Heater
I have a 01 King Ranch and my drivers side seat heater is't working. The light will come on when you hit the button but it never heats up. The passenger side works just fine. Any one have any ideas?
Hey KingRanch01,
I've checked the schematic for that portion of the truck electrical system and if your LED is illuminated then that means the heated seat fuse is good, the heated seat switch is good, and the wiring connectors at the seat switch are good. There's a module under the seat that controls the heaters and it's probably a relay or two. There's a feeder wire that breaks out of the harness and goes to the seat module. The feeder wire should be white/light blue and it should be at battery volts while the engine is running. The connector that feeds the seat heater module should have 10 terminals. Four of the wires on the 10 pin connector are inputs, four different ones are outputs and one is a ground and one is not used. If your LED is working then that eliminates the ground wire or its connection from being bad.
Coming out of the module should be four wires, the ground wire is black, the feeder for the seat back heater element should be violet/light blue, the wire leaving the seat bottom heater element is yellow/light blue, and the wire feeding the seat bottom heater comes from the seat back heater and should be gray/light blue. The wire feeding the temperature sensor is black/light blue and returns to the heater module with a brown/light blue wire Now that I’ve said all that, it just hit me that both heater elements are in series so if either element goes out then neither will work but your LED may still illuminate when seat heat is requested. Also, if the seat heater temp sensor fails or gets a bad connection then the system will probably not work either.
If you’re electrically inclined then this may help you. Otherwise, you’ll need to take it to someone who is good with troubleshooting electrical circuits.
Good luck,
