Question Stull Grille Installation

I am thinking about getting the Stull Grill for my SCrew (instead of the harley grille). Local shop says they have to cut the old egg crate grille out, yet I have seen on this board that the grille can be removed without cutting (with some difficulty). Any Stull grilles out there? Is there any drawback to 'tacking' the grille in place?

thx

If your talking about just removing the eggcrate, with a little work and 4 hands you can un-clip it. take the grille surround out by removing the corner lamps then the 10 screws that hold the surround in...then the 4 clips that connect the "flashing"....might be a better of more technical word for it than flashing but, it is connected to the surround and tucks behind each fender....ok, so now you have the grille surround out on a bench (a bench that you have covered with a blanket) looking down on the inside, there are multiple clips, they hold in 2 directions...have one person bend the tab back on one side while you bend it back on the other..I did end up breaking a few of the clips off the egg crate...but it would have worked fine with 4 hands. I just removed mine to install a Precision Billet Grille.........this one does not fasten to the surround, it actually fastens to the front radiator/fender assembly then the surround goes in front of it....not sure if this is how they all work.

Good Luck Ed

I did the same thing as S'CrewLoose did and managed to get all the clips loose without breaking any. The grill mounts on the rad frame and you put the surround back on overtop of the new grill. The instruction say to cut and grind the tabs off of the surround but I managed to leave them on and as you put the surround back on the tabs will go between the slots in the grill. The truck is on a lease and this way i can put the original grill back in. Its a black stull and here is a picture of the results.

Thanks for the replies guys! I was thinking the Stull would have to be welded in or something. I did see a Stull at the shop that had 4 screw brackets (2 top, 2 bottom). Though that particular Stull may have been for a previous model F150 (it was not large enough to cover my egg crate opening), I guess that is how it bolts in (or maybe I have to drill?). We shall see.

Nice pix....looks like an excellent fit.

This one just clips to the factory grille. No need to remove it.

Hey tbbr,

If the grill you refer to is too small it is likely for a 97-98. in 99 they made the grille a little larger on the F150's. You will notice it drops down into the bumper. The 97-98's where straighter.
And they do have 4 brackets as you described. You will need to drill 4 holes in a fiberglass support frame.

S'CrewLoose,
Hey glad you like the black. I like you would go for the interchangable. deponds on the day and mood whether you go with the black chrome or brushed. i am happy with the black since all the other trim on the truck is black.

I did want to keep the Ford logo but would like a smaller one. I would like to see your pictures. I too had thought of one from a Taurus.
