Extended Service Plan
Good Morning to all. Last night My wife and I ordered a 2002 XLT SCREW. YYYEEEAAAHHH!!! I wanted your opinions on the service plans. Did you go with them? Which one? There are 4 of them.....You all prob. know that. Powertrain, Base, Extra, Premium. Any input. Dealer gave me a month or so to think it over. Thanks for any help.
Congrats Screwed02,
I think You'll love your new rig.....ok, as far as the ESP goes....Buying one is up to you.....the dealer gave you a month? what a nice guy, Ford gives you 1 year or 12,000 miles to buy one ....oh, wait, thats without penelty....after that you can still buy one but pay $100.00 surcharge of sorts......I'm not sure what your dealer gave you for a price but, before you sign..call the guy at the bottom of this post, i pasted it from an earlier post of maybe 3 months. I called him and he gave me a damn good price.....look on line, call him and then go back to your dealer...if he can't match the price...call Gene...he is a ford dealer....your salesman doesn't need to know that your buying somewhere else and the service department doesn't care. I hope this helps...

I live in CA, but I bought my extended warranty from Gene Louder in TX. My dealer couldn't or wouldn't even get close to Gene's price. ( and I find that odd...when I bought the warranty it was for the third truck that I had order from the same dealer in 4 years, one would think that he would like to make a good customer even happier?!?!?!)
Service Plans
People have their opinions of service plans. I never buy them for anything I purchase. I guess this goes back to when I was in college and worked part time in an appliance store. If they could have sold the service plans without selling the appliances, they would have. It was almost pure profit. Much more profitable than selling the appliances themselves. There was incrdible pressure on the sales people for them to sell the service plan with every appliance they sold. I suspect its the same with the auto service plans. There is so much profit because there are so few claims. Of course if you ever need it, its nice to have.
I figure the Screw has three years on it. If I have a lot of major problems after three years, I'll trade it in. Its better than having something constantly repaired, even if its covered under the service plan.

My experience has been that if you tow a lot and have 4 x 4 it can be good insurance. I had a Chevy Blazer before my F150-Screw. My ESP replaced engine, transmission, radiator, 2 AC compressors, 2 alternators, master brake cyl., 4x4 transfer twice, wiper motor, several window motors & some front end parts. I bought the Extra Care for my F150. I never buy ESP's for my wife's vehicle since it is never used to tow.
In regards to third party service plans, I bought one several years ago, but had a lot of problems with getting service places to accept them. The Ford dealer that I lives near didn't want to spend all day on hold trying to get authorization, so i called around, and the only place that would accept it was the dealer I bought it from originally(45 miles away).
