My Screw is on the way! Evergreen Ford found me a Beige 5.4L about 140 miles away. Ironically, it started only about 20 miles away but was traded once and is now being traded back up here.

Now time to accessorize. First up: Trailer brakes. Then tranny cooler and then checking out the chips.

Who has the bed extender and is it worth the money? I still have the F250 supercab long bed so it's not like I'll use the Screw's bed that often.

All 5.4L engines come with tranny coolers. It's just a little bit bigger if you get the tow package.

My truck didn't come with the bed extender and the dealer wants a heck of a lot more for it than if I had ordered it with the truck. I've been living without it and so far, I don't miss it. So, if the one you're getting doesn't have it, try to live without it first. You'll probably be like me and find out you really don't need it.

 

I found a bed extender on eBay for $99. Have to start watching eBay for one more category now.

 

All Lariat's come with the bed extender.

You sure about that? Does that apply to 2001 Lariats? If so, then my dealer is doing something funky 'cause mine didn't have it.

 

A lot of the dealerships take the bed extenders out while the truck is sitting on the lot.... to keep them from walking off in the dark of the night. My dealer had taken the bed extender outta my truck and had it stored in their warehouse. I would have never thought about it if I hadn't seen it on the window sticker, and the salesman would have allowed me drive off without it.

So check the window sticker.... you may be paying for the bed extender already.

BTW, the only use I've found for the thing is to keep my groceries or beer cooler from sliding around in the back of my truck.

 

Thanks for the info. I'll have to check it out and see if it was included. Which means, I'll have to get a copy of the window sticker. They didn't save it for me when they prepped the truck. GRRRR!!!! When I got my '97, not only did it have the window sticker, but it also had a copy of it in the glove compartment. Assumed it would be that way with subsequent years, but it wasn't.

 

Yeah, just ask the dealer for it. I had to do the same thing. They trashed it before I could really take a look at it. Fortunately, they usually have a clean one in the file for the new vehicles. If not, I am sure they can have Ford send you a new one.

 

There wasn't one on my Lariat and I don't believe it was on the window sticker, either. But now I'll have to check.

And yes, I took delivery yesterday. Sadly, I'm at work right now and can't drive.

So, one last stupid question: Do the 2002 Screws still get to whine at Ford for a 1.42" radiator? Mine of course had the 1". I checked it and pointed it out to the salesman before I signed anything just so he knew I'd noticed it.

 

I just know what my dealer told me. Also every Lariat truck on the lot (about 40 2001s) Had the bed extender in them.

My dealer said that they had a bunch of the tailgate extenders stolen as they are worth up to $400 someplaces!

As far as the radiaor thing goes, there was a lawsuit, here is a post to it. If you just got your SCREW then sorry but Ford will not give you a new radiator as they say after a certin month they changed there specs.

I checked my paperwork, and there was no mention of a bed extender on my Lariat. A case of a dealer telling you something to get the extra money for it?

Regarding the radiator, that's what I was assuming was true. Mine was manufactured in November 2001 so I'm probably SOL. Thanks for the links.

 

Bed Extender was not included in the Lariat Package. It was a $245 dollar option when I bought mine. Later, the option price was dropped to $199.
