Is Ford going to Screw me?
Is Ford going to Screw me?
OK, I need some help. I stopped by the maint. dept at Ford to get my seat fixed, it has a hole in it, also the odometer in my truck is unreadable and needs to be fixed. The manager at the Ford maint. dept. is giving me the run around about fixing it because he can't get a milage reading. To top off my stop, when he pulled my VIN number, it doesn't show the extended plan that I bought. Is there another way to pull the milage. He said that he would look into it.

It sound's like he's yankin your chain. Don't let them do that call your local ford area rep & start bitchin. That is rediculous about not getting the o/meter read. How long have you had the truck ?
your in the right
Take this to task at once. Go to the general manager then to the dealer owner. Take it to ford, sounds like an idiot or a power trip, either way dig in your heels...........@%#$% Another dealer may take care of it without the butt kissing!!!!! Good luck! I hate having to wet my lips to get whats right, probably would try another dealer if possible, this one doesnt deserve your business.
I've had the truck 18 months, las oil change was at 24,400. It's only been a few months, I think, the truck is at 29,600 right now. I can make out numbers partially. I changed the oil last night figuring that it was about time. I called Ford and notified them of the situation. She told me that an e-mail has been sent to the Ford regional manager and the dealership.
I'll let everyone know what happens.
Thanks for the feedback.

If it was my truck:
"The odometer is broken. The numbers are unreadable. I have not driven the truck since the last time you serviced it so, that's what my mileage is. Are you going to fix it or am I going to have to wait and continue to 'NOT' drive the truck?"
"Oh, and by the way, I've been NOT driving this truck so much it's due for a oil change and tire rotation."
"You really don't have to fix my odometer until my three years are up unless you want to, cause I'm NOT driving the truck anyways."
(If my odometer numbers were not crystal clear then they are totally bogus!!!)
Otherwise,
Service manager:
"That looks like a 3 and that looks like a 6 and dang if that don't look like three zeros."

It's in the Computer
ALL of your important info is stored in the onboard computer.
In case of an engine failure or other major problem, your info can be pulled out of the on-board computer, including mileage, in case you raised the rear end and ran it in reverse, trying to lower your mileage.
I also believe it keeps track of highest RPM ever obtained, incase your motor let go, they could deny the claim by proving abuse.

Well, here's what I would do...
Let let the Ford Service guy act like an idiot, but don't act like one to match him.
The biggest issue here is your extended warranty. Get out your purchase paperwork and show it to the General Manager of the dealership. If you get this issue fixed, the rest become a moot point.
If you don't have that, and you know that the mileage is still under 36000, then tell the general manager to replace the odometer and if the mileage is >36000, either the extended warranty will cover it or you will (since you bought the extended warranty you are covered here).
If they refuse to fix the odometer, find another dealer, but don't act like an idiot just because they are.... it is an easy trap to fall into.....

Thanks to everyone for there info. yesterday evening I called the service manager and questioned him again. He told me to bring the truck in so he could get the style codes off the truck. This morning I showed up, he wrote a service ticked, gathered the info and he ordered me a new instrument cluster and seat.
I'm still working on the extened warranty. It's called Easy Care, and the covderage was Total Care issued by Automobile Protection Corporation. I've been told by a Ford rep on the phone that she has never heard of it, but the dealership states that all Ford dealerships will accept it. I'm in the process of contacting the original dealer to have them add it to Ford's computers.
Thanks again,
Rick

Rick,
If I were you, I would look very closely into that warranty, check to see what it covers and what it doesn't. The aftermarket warranties are generally not as good as the Ford ESP.
As far as all dealerships honoring it, good luck and I hope that all the dealers that you have to take your truck to for service will honor it, it just ain't true. The dealers get re-embursed from Ford on Ford ESP warranty work. On the aftermarket warranties, they have to deal with the company that sold the warranty. I am sure it is a pain in the rear to deal with collecting warranty work payments from the aftermarket warranties.
If you are okay with this, then its okay, if not, I would check with your dealer to see if you can trade up to Ford ESP before your Ford factory warranty expires, once it expires, you cannot extend it.

Good idea, I'll look into that. I was under the impression that I was getting a Ford warranty, not an aftermarket one. I might end up getting rid of this truck after this work get's done and by another one. I want the 5.4, the 4.6 does the job, but after driving a 5.4 I could really feel the difference.
