Never to late to go to the syth. Although, this maybe be personal option, but, I stand by it. If you are going to go, go with Mobil-1. It may be alittle more but they ARE the BEST. I worded at the R&D facility where it was developed, tested, compared to competion, and it really wasn't any contest. I do not belive I am dedicated to that product brcause I worked there, I just seen the results.
Hell, I was there when they did the 1,000,000 (yes, one million) mile test on the BMW and the hoopla party for that. It came off the rollers for scheduled maintence only. The internal engine parts where is "within factory recommendations" after the testing.
Hope this was some help!!!!

I was in the same boat as you, Rivers. After dutifully changing my dino earl every 3K miles, I wanted to switch to synthetic. I have a mechanic I use and trust. He said I could switch to synthetic anytime I wanted. He also said that it would be a good idea to do a complete flush at the same time, just to ensure I got everything totally clean and could start fresh, altho' it wasn't absolutely necessary. So, my next change (I've got 30K miles) I'm going with synthetic!
Oil
Hey Rivers,
I beleive in good old Kendall GT1 High Performance oil. I've used it for many years in all tyoes of vehicles with excellant results.
With my new Screw, I am going to continue using Kendall period.

Hey Racer70, my dad sells Kendall and a bit of news as far as that goes. Kendall does not yet make a 5-20 in the GT1 yet but does in the supurb. They are going to get rid of the suprub line and make everything the GT1. So hopefully this year we will see a 5-20 in the GT1.
Everyone in my family uses the Kendall, as well as just about every mechanic who cares anything about there car. I used the GT1 in my old 1994 F-150 and it has over 117,000 miles on it and still runs as good as the day I got it! Goes to show if you take care of your car/truck, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, whatever, then it will last a long time. People who just buy a car and then run it into the ground (don't do any preventive maintince) are both stupid and asking for trouble.
As far as Mobile 1 goes, it is a great oil as well. They do make a great syntetic, and a great oil in general, but as a Kendall fan I will still go with the Kendall. Unfortunatly it is a bit harder to find than other oils but if you can get a hold of it, it's well worth it.
My dads opinion on the syntethic (as he has been selling oil for close to 18 years) is that it really isn't worth the extra money unless you are towing alot, drving in extreem cold or heat, or racing. Otherwise using a standard oil like the GT1 is great for almost all applications.
Yes Kendall is the most expensive oil out there, but it's also the best. No mechanic that I have ever talked to has said diffrent.
One problem Kendall has it they don't advertise worth a damm. The company is under new ownership and hopefully will start advertising.
As far as my dads opinion on what the worst oil is, Penzoil, don't touch that crap, it builds up in the engine and basically after a while will actually start to gum the engin up.
When I hear more about the release of the 5-20 in the GT1 I will post for anyone who is intrested.

Yo Racer70:
Thanks for the info, if Kendall is going to quit the GT1, then I guess I'll be going with the Synthedic, sounds like Mobil1 is the way to go......
