Angry ATV and Steel Horse bed extender

Does anyone have any advise!!!

I just bought a Steel Horse bed extender for my S-Crew and when I load my Quad (Honda Foreman 450 ES) into the bed I can not get the extender on the truck, it hit the rack of the quad and is not long enough to reach the mounts. Any ideas????

2 Ideas

Gator, take a look at this thread on the FORD bed extender:
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...t=bed+extender

Not quite the solution for the SteelHorse version, but could give you an idea.

Normally you have to insert the SH bed extender while it is in the UP position due to the way the plastic is (so it would come out of the clips while down in either position).

Try this, with the ATV in the bed, move the SH bed extender to see if it would fit while in the down position (kind of like dry fitting to see if the part fits).

If so, then you could perform a modification. Cut the flat tab parts off the bed extender where it would mount in the 2 clips. This should allow you to insert the bed extender regardless if it up or down or whatever.

Then you would need to fabricate a part that will hold the (now pins) in the clips so it can not bounce up & out of the clips.

One idea would be to create a C clip that would mount to one fork of the clip & would then rotate over the bed extender pin & then be secured to the other fork of the clip by a cotter pin or something. (only problem would be now that the tabs are gone, someone could just squeeze the sides inward & remove the bed extender w/o your permission!)

One other idea would be to lower the bed extender over the tailgate & you & a buddy would just lift the ATV into the truck bed!

Maybe someone will have a better idea

Good luck!

Jhimes, Thanks for your reply, I had thought of doing something similar to that but i was just checking to see if someone had a trick up their sleeve before grinding and fabricating.

Thanks again.
