Freeway vibration is unnerving!
Has anyone found a way to lessen the cyclical vibration in a SuperCrew. At 75 to 80 Mph on rough freeway pavement here in California, my truck vibrates up and down repeatedly until the road smoothes out. It lessens at lower speeds but still?
I've taken it to the dealer but they couldn't repeat the problem and just made sure the tire pressure was correct. I'm thinking my shocks are the culprit.
Any ideas,
Jon

My truck virbrates around 60-70. At that higher speed I have never had problems.
It is due to the wheel base on the Super Crews and I eventually will be trying some diffrent shocks and maybe diffrent tires. Other than that I would say were stuck with this issue. I only have the problem in a few parts of the freeway where I live (San Diego) There are a few spot that are really bad but I don't drive on them that often at 60-70 MPH. Normally I'm going faster and theres no problem for me. I have a friend who has a f-150 extended cab with the long bed who has this exact same problem. That truck also has the same wheelbase as the SCREWs.

My truck vibrates 70mph range too. IT feels more like tires out of balance.I am going to try a tire rotation 1st. Then I will be calling the dealer, only 900 miles on truck. This should not be happening too a new truck.
Hi Jonny Crewd,
You must be writing about the notorious San Bernardino freeway. Mine does it a little bit too, but not to the point that yours apparently does.
New shocks (recommend Rancho 9000 or Edelbrock IAS) may be on the horizon for you. Also, the brand/size of tire may also contribute to the problem. I had the stock BFG's on mine (17 inchers) and then changed over to some bigger 18's and the 18's actually rode much better despite the added width (increased tire to pavement contact).
You don't mention how many miles you have, but the HD factory shocks on mine started to go bad at 4,000 miles. I'm saving up right now for some Rancho 9000's. The Rancho option was made after I did some intense research and feedback from users at this site.

Is the vibration more in the steering wheel or the seat of your pants? Depending on which one, check the balance in the front or rear wheels. Maybe both. Some tires take almost no weight to balance and others, you can't get enough lead on the tire. When I changed to Michelins, 3 out of 4 tires took almost no weight. The 4th took quite a bit as the wheel was not balanced properly from the factory. Just my 2 cents.
My Screw suffers from the same vibration. Just put 1500 freeway miles on this past week. (....still buzzing). Most of my driving is below 75 so I haven't been forced to solve the problem. This past trip was really irritating. Vibration starts about 75, increases up to about 78-80, then fades slightly on up. Just turned over 20k and I've experienced this since the truck was new. I replaced the Lariat wheels and Goodyears with aftermarket wheels and Michelin LTXs at 1500 mi...... No change. I suspect factory shocks can't handle road imperfections at these velocities. This vibration isn't drink spilling variety, just annoying. I feel it in both the seat and the wheel, but at different frequencies. The wife says she doesn't notice it.. (that might be another problem). I'll go shopping for shocks soon. Suggestions on good shocks are appreciated.

Hands down the best shocks that you will never have to replace ever again are Bilstiens. They are stiffer than most shocks but they are the best.
KYB makes really good shocks as well and they are not quite as stiff.
The Rancho shocks in my opinion are too soft for offroading but you may like them. Also I feel they are overrated, but thats just my opinion.

Have same problem - not all of the time, sometimes in steering wheel, sometimes in behind. One thing I have noticed is that it gets worse when you have more people inside. Anyone else notice this?? Then again, it might be just because my Chevy friends like pointing it out when they ride with me. I have a local shop that does on-car balancing and tire shaving, so if it helps I will let you all know.

That's the one Area 52! Some of the worst pavement anywhere! Thanks for the suggestion on the shocks. I have the Generals and about 6500 miles on the truck. I'll probably put Michelin's on when they where out + change the shocks. The vibration is felt along the entire truck... kind of a resonating motion that kicks in on particular areas of freeway here in CA. Nerve-wracking as he**!
The dealer did check the tire balance. Unfortunately that's all they did. Ford apparently knows about this problem but isn't looking to fix it anytime soon. I hope others can find a solution.

I had that on th 118 it was around 60mph but would go away
after 70mph.
The shocks are doing their job too well.
Did you know your SCrew bed is fiberglass?
There is not enough weight on the back, I installed
a SnugLid and it started to diminish. With my boat behind it there is no vibration!!!
Stiffer shocks will intensify the issue.

SCREWED, WHICH PART OF THE BED IS FIBERGLASS? SOUNDS TO ME LIKE FORD SCREWED UP . I GUESS THATS WHY MY SCREW WAS ALL OVER THE ROAD WHEN THE WIND WAS BLOWING. THATS THE MOST LOGICAL EXPLANATION FOR THE VIBRATION I HAVE READ , THANKS SCREWEDFORD
Glad to say that I have not experienced any hooky behaviour at all in any speed range. The high speed cruise capability is impressively comfortable. My control is normaly set at 90, at which its a nice ride......the truck seems speed limited to 105, but this is probably the safe limit of the standard tyres anyway.
Just had my tires balanced today. all 4 wheels were out of balance. My screw only has 1100 miles. If you are vibrating in your new screw ,have the balancing checked.Still not as smooth as the wifes expedition but better.
