Question Did anyone ever get an official answer for the Transmission Thunk on the SCREW?

Haven't seen any post about this for a while and thought that I'd ask what the official reason from Ford was for this and should it be fixed, or is it a "feature".

Question

I'm curious about this also. I've gotten a complete run around over the last year from my Dealership. They keep telling me it's normal. I'm sorry, but it just doesn't feel normal. Is there a TSB on this subject? I thought I saw something a while back. Anybody got any info?

Thanks, Tom

Are you referring to the occasional noise while the trans is shifting? It seems like it may happen only under certain throttle positions, as my 00 Scab did it as well. I thought this was possibly induced or made a bit worse by the Superchip, but the condition remained after pulling the chip. It certainly doesn't feel good, but in both trucks over about 30k miles, it didn't seem to get any better/worse.

My 01 Screw does this as well. One more funny (not really) thing: my 1993 Honda Civic does the same thing. It has 50k, and it's not every shift- just like the truck. 95% of the shifts are smooth in both vehicles.

Very weird, but I'm not losing any sleep over it yet.

It's where it feels like the transmission slips between 1st and seconds both up and downshifting. Mainly during downshifting it is more noticable.

So again if anyone knows the official Ford answer to this, it would be appriciated. I do agree with T21 that "it's normal" just dosen't sound right.

Hmmm. Thanks for clarifying, my noise is on upshift only, I've never heard anything unusual on downshifts.

I'll keep an ear open though, if I hear something I'll let you know. I would agree though, if yours makes a noise downshifting, that should raise an eyebrow.

I'm sure many thought the first door crack person was goofy, same with the radiator being thinner than spec'd.

I thought that someone posted that the SuperChip changed the tranmission shift points and the thunk goes away? That would kind of indicate to me that it was not mechanical and part of the software? To me, that would mean that the issue would be with Ford and not the dealer? No?

Question

Yes the thunk goes away for me but there is still what feels like a sliping between 1st and second. All the other gears shift firmly but the 1st to 2nd seems to have a delay or sliping feel to it.

I don't know how else to explain it.

Now the Super Chip takes the time delay out of the shifting or at least shortens it, and so I think the trans shifts quicker between 1st and second that may get rid of that thunk? A better guess may be that the shift point isat a diffrent RPM therfor the gears are spining at a diffrent speed, and the noise is diffrent/gone.

My guess from the view of a driver not a mechanics.

I had posted a similiar question in the 'transmissions' forum about a thunk/thud that happens on my 2002 Supercrew when starting out from a stop. Most noticeable on gentle starts as opposed to more aggressive starts. The dealer had mentioned possible driveshaft 'slack'. No resolution at this point.

Also interested...

There was a post about a TSB in this thread

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...letin%20Number

Anyone try it.

Also, I have contacted a member here who says that a computer replacement fixed it for him. I am taking mine to the shop in the next couple of weeks to start the process.

Good luck!
