6cd changer question

I have a 2001 SC and the 6cd changer is behind the rear seat. I would like to get an extra cd cartridge so that it is easier to swap the cd's. I called the local Ford parts dept. and they gave me a price of $81.00!!! Does anyone know where I can get one cheaper. And who is the manufacturer of the cd player? I can't find that info in any of the owner information. The parts guy said it is Ford, but that doesn't sound right, is it?

Go to e-bay and check under ebay motors. Put in the search box f-150 or f150 both will bring up different postings. I know that I have seen the cd cartrifge in there for way less then 81.00!! Good luck.

PS try the electronic section also.

I haven't got had a close look at the latest CD changers, but Ford has use Clarion in the past. My '97 Explorer changer was a "Ford" Clarion. The cartridge in a changer I looked at a couple of years later was different but it was still a Clarion. If nothing else, go to some local stereo shops and they will know.

Yes, they are clarion units. Any stereo shop like Circuit City or Best Buy that carries Clarion units should be able to get you one.

Do you know which model Clarion crosses over?

I would like to pick up a CD changer.

Do you need an adapter to plug it into the factory deck?

Mark;
You'll find oem cdchangers for sale in the f150online.com classifieds. Also check http://www.radiosandmore.com/ for oem cd changers and required cables. Radios and more have great service and info. I put a changer in my son's 2001 Explorer (it's the same changer as the F-150) - - mounting under his front passenger seat. A lot of the members on this site upgrade their systems - - there are usually quite a few cd changers in the classifieds ....

Best of luck.

Yeah but it really sucks to ship stuff up here to Canada.
Ends up costing me double.

But if I can just go down to Future Shop and pick one up then I'm laughing.

The changer cartridge for my CD changer (as well as the one in my dad's '99 Expedition and 2000 Jag S-type) is the Clarion CAA-355-600. About $25-30 at any car stereo shop or Crutchfield.

Mark, you cannot use a Clarion changer. Visteon purchases the changers from Clarion and changes the protocol to communicate with the Visteon Head units. If you want to add a changer your Ford dealer should be able to supply one but you may need the wiring harness. The above mentioned site should be cheaper though.
