Question Rear Ends...

No not that kind.

I'm talking about the 3.55 rear end on the SCREWs. My question is if change the rear end (excuse me I don't know anything about this) but on a 4x4 do you have to change anything other than the rear gear ratio like maybe something for the front. I would assume this because you don't want the front tires to spin at a diffrent ratio than the back, right?

Also what is the cost of doing something like this, I wanted some suggestions on brands (Limited Slip, a locker would be to much) and what has to be done.

Thanks

You would have to change the front gear too... obviously put an extreme amount of strain on the drivetrain if you didn't, even in the dirt.....

Probably need to re-program the computer for the speedometer.......

That depends on what you are trying to accomplish... the higher you go, the more gas mileage loss you will suffer....

Actually I was thinking like a 3.7-3.8 someething. Would that make much of a diffrence or is it a worthless move. My wish is to basically make the truck a little bit more racier, but I don't want to sacrifice too much of the higher end.

I guess what would matter would be what you consider high-end.... ie top speed at the end of the 1/4 mile or highway speeds.... either way, you are going to loose some.... are you going up from the 3.55? Search should find a number of threads (mostly from the Lightning forum I would guess).... I have seen many knowledgable discussion on this....

Pinion bearing fail

Has anyone had their pinion bearing go out in their 9.5" rear end yet? A buddy of mine had his fail yesterday and my rear differential cone is looking like there is a small leak out the front. Both trucks are 2001 S-Crew 4x4's.

Thanks
Matt
