Radiator problems?
I just got my check from ford for the radiator. I really wanted the bigger radiator, but now I wonder if I really need it. Has anyone had any problems with the smaller radiator? I would like to use the check to add other things to the truck if the smaller radiator works fine. We have a 23foot campier that we just had given to us and I haven't dare pull it due to the radiator issue. I have a 2001 screw 4x4 with the 5.4 and the towing package. Does anyone know what the payload and towing limits would be for this?
I would not hesitate to pull a 23 foot trailer. I pulled our 31 foot with the small rad. I did get mine upgraded though before we did thousands of miles with it this summer. Your 23 foot will be well below the rating posted here earlier.
I got a new 2 inch radiator installed 2 months ago after much hoopla on my part. It was just the principle. But in all reality I do not think I need it. I think Ford would replace radiators if they felt the would be a overheating problem. Who knows they might have changed the assembly and forgot to update the litature unlike the reverse that most people think.
Anyway, here in Phoenix it was about 110 and after the switch there was no change in temp.
I think Ford is right on this one about the size. They may be wrong about the mishap and the direction taken but I would settle for whatever is easiest on your end. A check is easy and if it does run hot when you tow you can always can Ford.

Redkona:
I once loaded a Ford Ranger with 2400 lbs of oak firewood. The axle was bottomed out on the rubber "snubbers" mounted to the frame rails. I took about 200 lbs off, got about 3/4 inch of clearance, and drove away. I only went about 2 blocks at 25 MPH, but HEY!, the thing was only rated for 1320 lbs.
