Trade In Value of 2001 Screw
Trade In Value of 2001 Screw
Ok. Kelly blue book & edmunds do not have any info on the 2001 Supercrew yet. I bought a Generation I supercrew in early April of 2000. It currently has 31,000 miles on it w/ ARE Lid. I am wanting to trade it in on a new King Ranch but have nothing to base the value. Dealers are offering me $22,500 - 23,200 at this point. I figure I could sell it myself for possibly $25,000 - $26,000 to someone that was not watching the news or Ford lots lately. Has anyone gone thru this recently? Great time to buy a new truck....... bad time to get rid of a used one!
Any help would be appreciated!

Lightguy,
I thought about doing the same thing only for another xlt screw.
Just a different color maybe & for the fx4 package with the 2 tone paint & the new rim's.Like you said a great time to buy & a bad time to sell. I might just wait for the 2003 model's. I've alway's found it hard to sell my other truck's on my own because I trade off every 2-3 year's & trying to sell a big $$$$$ item is not alway's real easy.Keep in mind a few factor's.
(1)It will be easier for the dealer to sell it than you. Some place's here are starting to offer very low% on used car's & truck's through the dealer only.
(2)Offset the cost of taxes involved. If you trade in you only have to pay taxes on the difference,if you sell out to private party & then purchase your new truck for let's say $32,000.00 then you'll have to pay taxes on $32000.00.Either way it comes out as a wash because you still pay them anyway just don't have to write the big tax check.
(3)Don't forget about the cost of running the ad's & the sitting & waiting of people who don't show up & waiting for them to try to get financing on somethig they usually can't aford to begin with.
Sorry I can't be of better help to you but I just wanted to share my experiences with you.In my opinion I would take the trade offer & roll with it.
Let me know how thing's work out. Good Luck!
Mike

I would say 22-24 is fair. I traded my 00 S-Cab 4x4, XLT and got 18.5, 28k miles
Your problem is similar to mine-- the finance rates on new trucks make selling a few year old truck a tough sell-- hence the beating we're taking on the price. Although I was making a slight model change, I could justify a few extra $$$ difference in my mind anyway. I also picked up a few options, the 5.4, limited slip, and power captains chair-- that's about it. Other than that, they had the same options (towing, off road, etc.)
The tax advantage is something to think about, it may add up to about grand, maybe more. Question is can you get more for your truck privately than what you'd lose on taxes.....
If I were you I'd be hard pressed to come up with a good reason to do such a "trade up". Would you qualify for some of the very low rate financing?? That counts a little. I dropped from 5.9 to 2.9-- again helping to offset the difference.
Good luck with your decision-- Either way you have a good truck, right??

Let''s keep the estimates coming. I've been placed into a very, VERY sad position. I took a new job a year ago, and was given a company car. After a year of justifying the "extra" "luxury" of my SCrew, a new baby (#2) is forcing us to cut costs - and replace my truck and the wife's car with...
a minivan.
I appreciate the earlier estimates provided by Lightguy. Let's keep them coming. While getting SCrewed is good, screwed is bad!
Thanks,
Not much more to say, and the trade in values will be directly related to region... Values will be depressed until the 0% financing is gone... including for Chevy's and Dodge's...

Sales tax
In Missouri, if you sell your vehicle within 6 mo of a purchase of a new one (on which you paid the full sales tax), you can apply for a refund for the sales tax on the selling price of your old vehicle. This gives you the same tax break that you would have gotten had you traded in your old vehicle on your new purchase, plus, since you sold your old vehicle for more than you would have gotten for a trade-in, you come out even further ahead!
(Of course, the last time I decided to sell the car myself, it took me 7 mos to do it, the selling price depreciated and I didn't get the sales tax refund, so I probably would have been better off trading it in!)
Check with your state motor vehicle department - they probably have the same or similar program.

Just traded.......
a Gen II Lariat 4x2, 4.6 l engine, tow package, two tone, 6 disc, and limited slip. Sticker 29500/Invoice 26300 . I added line-x and ARE LSII. 15,000 miles. Traded for 22500. I bought Gen III at invoice and 2.9% financing. Richmond, VA area. Be careful comparing trade in values without knowing terms of the new purchase. I could have gotten thousands more and paid sticker for the new one. During the financing incentives, it was much better for me to trade and buy than to waste time trying to sell, especially with most serious buyers looking to dealers for the low financing.
Well, Kelly Blue Book now has trade-in information on the SuperCrew. My SCrew (see sig) with 17k comes up at $23K for trade-in.
Unfortunately, the 0% financing deals have flooded the used car market, and the wholesalers taking vehicles off dealer's hands are not offering top dollar. Best trade-in offer seen was $20K.
This blows!

I speced mine on kbb.com and the site said that as a trade in it is worth about $26.5K and to a private party $29K. Now I only have 4500 miles on it but so far it hasen't deprciated as much as I though. I will see in about 2 years if it is even worth $15K (hopefully it is)
I paid $27,500 for mine brand new in september so the private party is actaully more than what I paid.
But that of cource dosen't mean I could actually get that, since someone could get a brand new 2002 for about the same price right now for 0% financing

JScharlton,
It's not the flood of vehicles that is the problem.... it is simple economics.
Someone can buy a brand new 2002 SuperCrew for $27000 at 0% interest... let's say that comes out to $450 a month, nothing down.
Or... they can buy a year old 2001 SuperCrew for $24000 at let's say at 4.9% (this is really pushing it for a used car rate) and pay $451.81 a month, nothing down.
What sounds good to you???
So, for the wholesaler or the dealer to put food on the table.. do you think they can give you $24000 for your trade in when you want to buy the new one on xplan?
No, 0% costs us on the value of our vehicles... just economics.....
Sorry, but it is true, doesn't have much to do with how many SuperCrews are being traded in... has everything to do with 0% financing... and will continue as long as one of the big three offers the 0% incentive.....
Just my two cents.....Sorry.... we're all taking a beating right now.

dcovell,
You are pointing out exactly why the dealers laugh when you mention Kelly Bluebook.... if you just bought brand new for $27500 a month ago and Kelly's says it is worth 29+ retail... why would someone buy it from you with a used car rate even if there was no 0%? They could buy it for the same brand new with a much better rate....
Never understood why dealers scoff at Bluebook....... makes sense just based on what you found... doesn't it?
