Exhaust? Exit Stock Location?
I recently bought a '01 F150 Supercrew Lariat ORP, and after putting 4k miles on it I'm ready to slap on a different exhaust. I use to have a '97 F150 with a Gibson exhaust that I really liked. So about two months ago I bought my dad a Gibson side swept single exit exhaust system. It looks nice, but it is very very quiet, it does have a nice rumble and at highway speeds its barely noticed. But I want something a tad bit louder.
I really don't care for the flowmasters and I also want the side exit exhaust, nothing out the rear of the truck. I'm curious as to what the Bassani and Borla exhausts sound like and if they exit out the stock location. Can anyone give me a brief description? Also what other exhaust exit out the stock location, besides Gibson?
thanks

I'm in the same situation as you. I've narrowed down my choices to two - Spintech or Magnaflow.
The Spintech systems can be had multiple ways, including exits @ the stock location w/ either 1 or 2 pipes. The nice thing with it is you can get it w/ an X-pipe and convert your system into a true dual setup. You can also select from different mufflers for sound preference. I've heard X-piped Spintech systems on Mustangs, and they sound fabulous. I've not heard one on an F150, but several here have the X-piped systems on their trucks, and have good things to say about them - both powerwise & soundwise.
Magnaflow also gets good recommendations here. They have a 3" catback system that apparently complements the torque characteristics of the Ford engines very well. If I were to do this, I would replace the factory Y-pipe as well. Their exhausts are not loud, but not as quiet as the Gibson Swept-Side.
Personally, I think I'm going to go w/ the Spintech, but I do know the Magnaflow is a good system also.

How would you rate the sound from the Spintech on a scale of 1 to 5, with five being the loudest....
I think Gibson would fall at about a 2, what would magnaflow fall under for sound?
thanks

just a suggestion, I went down to Midas and had a flowmaster muffler put on using the stock pipes since they were new anyway. I also had a large chrome tip put on to give a tough look. So now I have a nice clean stock look, that sounds awsome, and get complments on the sound all the time
I have a Bullet muffler on mine and it sounds liek a beffy V8. Sounds better than my friends Chevy!!!!
The flowmaster 40 is the loudest you can get, but be forwarned, it is really loud inside and out, you may want to get the flowmaster 50 for a nice rumble without a bunch of extra noise in the cab.
The nice thing about the screw is that the exaust is under the bed and not the cab. With the expedition, explorer, excursion, etc. the muffler is in the same place but right under the cab and will be louder.
My cat back is from the stock "Y" with the Bullet muffler and a 3" pipe all the way back to a 3.5" stainless steel tip. Parts, labor, tax, everything out the door for less than $200 at Express muffler and hitch here in San Diego.

I had a 1997 F-150 4X2 regular cab pickup. It had a factory installed side exhaust with the exhaust coming out in front of the right rear wheel. The right rear wheel was chrome with a chrome plastic hub cap. The plastic hub cap had green haze on it after approx. 12,000 miles. I could not clean the haze off. I took it to the dealer and they informed me that there was a problem with exhaust gases damaging the wheel. They installed a new exhaust system with the tail pipe coming out the rear. I now have a 2001 Lariat 4X4 Supercrew. This truck has steel wheels, however the chrome wheel part ( insert ) is made of plastic and the hub cap is made of plastic. I suspect that a side exhaust would also damage this wheel.
