Questions for New Purchase
Questions for New Purchase
I am a Supercrew Generation I 4X4 Lariat owner. The truck has 31,000 miles on it and was delivered in May of 2000. Ive got custom color keyed steps and an ARE Lid. I am wanting to trade the truck in on a new 2002 KR in the Charcoal Blue Clearcoat. I have some questions:
1) What should I expect if I trade the truck in at the dealer? What might I get out of it if I try and sell it outright? Cant find any info on Kelly Bluebook.
2) What should I expect to pay for the new 2002 KR w/ moonroof, 5.4 limited slip, 6Disk CD Changer? (Isnt CD Changer standard on KR?) NO Tow package necessary.
3) I want the bench backseat. Is there anything I need to know about other items that I may want to consider on this truck or stay away from?
4) If my memory serves me correctly, their are no armrests in this truck anymore, correct. Without sitting in it or driving it I plan on this sucking because I find mine comfortable. Any comments on the lack of armrest? How are new seats? Where is the CD Changer? In my current truck it is in the center console.
5) I noticed at some lots, every single truck has a bed extender in the back. Others do not. Is this becoming standard, and is it something that individual dealers throw in, or whats the story on that. Sunset Ford in St.Louis must have had 30 trucks and every single one had bed extenders.
6) Is there any kind of option for powered rear window in the KR from the factory?
7) Last I promise, what is the current anticipated delivery time for a new handy 02KR? Does it take longer than a Lariat or XLT?
I apoligize if all of these questions have already been answered in this board somewhere. I have been extremely busy and did not have alot of time and wanted to get some of your thoughts as quickly as I could and knew that I could count on you. Answer some or all or comment as you wish. I want to make a move soon and take advantage of this interest rate.
Thanks in Advance and may God Bless America!

1) Check kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book) They guide you thru the process of pricing your vehicle. Expect a little less on the trade in than what they say you will get. Watch out when trading in, dealers will try to move money from the new vehicle price to the trade in so that they net out the same. You know, great sale price but bad trade in value or vice versa
2) Goto www.edmunds.com. Price up the vehicle as you want it. I made a bid on www.priceline.com at invoice price and got the exact price I wanted.
4) I have a Gen3 with no armrests, the center console is good for an armrest, but the window sill is a little high. I test drove a gen1 with armrests, and felt that they got in the way.
Later,
Bruce.

for trade in value.....
......try to find a Carmax or other no haggle type used car lot. Carmax will make you an offer in writing which is good for 7 days.
The dealer can beat them if he wants your truck or you can sell it to Carmax (or put it for sale while you wait for KR to come in for extra $$)
www.carmax.com
I have a Gen II Lariat 4x2 (4.6) invoice/sticker was 26400/29500 , with 15000 mile , line-x and ARE lid. Carmax offer was 22500 minus their $160 "purchase fee" .
I got a (over) loaded Gen III waiting for me right now, invoice and 2.9% financing. Loaded with moonroof (don't need) ,Captains chairs, heated (don't need),silly cargo cage (don't want!) and no LS diff(want!!)?! It still shrinks my payment and gets me headrests in back. Most important........no more black truck to keep clean!!
I would search long and hard for an in stock KR you like and save thousands in financing. Easier said than done. Good luck!
ps Look into keeping your ARE and getting it painted.
