Color-keyed mirrors?
Color-keyed mirrors?
My truck came with the chrome rearview mirror caps and I definatley prefer the color-keyed. Does anybody know where I could get a set of black ones to match my truck? Or is there anyone out there who likes the chrome and would want to trade? Any help on this would be appreciatted.
Just curious, did you also get the chrome grill instead of the color surround? I know there were some issues with Ford about the regional appearance package for two-wheel drive XLT's. My salesman was kind enough to change out the mirrors and grill to the color type for free.

I have the same problem
JRUDD -
let me know how this works out, as I have the same problem. I have Black/Gold (New Orleans Saint's Colors - just happened to work out that way - the truck was on the lot), with Chrome Mirrors and Grill. I have been wanting to change out the chrome myself, just too lazy to investigate.
Let me know what the cost was, and how long it took you to replace.
Thanks!

I have the color-keyed mirrors on mine but I noticed a Screw with chrome on the way into work today. It did have the chrome grill surround and different grill as well.
In looking at the mirror as I passed I also noticed that they did not have the turn signal indicator on them. I would suspect the chrome part is different because of the shape difference since the signal indicator light is part of the housing now and not the mirror glass.

Lariats (KR maybe?) have the signal mirrors standard. If you do not have signal mirrors you should be able to swap chrome for painted fairly easily. I have an XLT and they are chromed. I also have the chrome grill surround. I like mine chrome but have to replace the passenger side cap because some one hit it with their door and chipped the chrome.
Hi JRUDD,
I ran my mirror cover into the garage door hardware while parking it (DOH!). Scratch gouged it pretty good. Popped it off, sanded out the scratches and gouges, spray painted 2 light and 1 final heavy coat with matching Black from Pep Boys. Let it dry a couple of days, then used Dupont rubbing compound finished off with Turtle Wax polishing compound. Two coats of Zaino wax and it matches the glossy finish of the truck.

I recently had the mirrors painted to match the color of my truck. Ford told me that they do not sell the colorkeyed ones. A local body shop charged me about $50 for 5 coats of paint and 3 coats of clearcoat.
