Question Leasing

I might be out of line about this so no offense to anyone:

I'm new to the forum so this might be rehashed but I was just wondering how many 'Screw owners are leasing and if you are, have you made any mods to your vehicle? If you have, what kind and do you plan on buying after your lease is up?

Just curious

Thanks

Leased

Got my Screw on 8/10 and am leasing it (my first time leasing). The only mods that I have made (or plan to make) are: added locks to bed extender, installed a Sportmaster soft tonneau cover (a necessity item!) and a plug for that butt ugly hole in the bumper for a trailer hitch ball. There are a couple of mods that I would do if I were buying, but since I'm not, I won't do anything else (why spend the money, then give it to the dealer?).

I leased the '01 for 2 years so the lease will be up when the '04s will be out, giving Ford a model year to fix their problems with the re-designed '03 models (ala Gen I, II, III for the '01s). If I like the new design, I'll lease or buy an '04; if I don't like them, I'll consider buying this one.

I'm bought my 2001 Screw for the simple reason that I plan to drive it for a long time. I've leased before, an '87 expy, and that worked out well because I wrecked it. $13,000 worth of repairs later, I gave it back to Ford after the lease expired. It just depends on how you plan to use the truck and what type of mods you like. Leasing will get you into a truck much cheaper than buying, but if you like to add things and tinker, buying may be the way to go.

Good info! I am leasing and don't plan any major mods that I can't take with me like door speakers, head unit or even a fiberglass lid. I put in a wood dash kit and superwhite bulbs that'll eventually go back to dealer if I don't outright buy the Screw but these creature comforts are part of the fun driving such a great truck!

thanks

I am leasing mine and will likely buy it at the end of the lease. But I said that when i had the 98 Supercab. At the end of the lease I was going to buy it BUT then the supercrew came out so I leased one instead of buying out the 98.

As far as mods:
Billet grill will come back out, original saved to put back in
Fiberglass Tonneau will come of and sell
Window tint will stay on
K&N filter and airbox mods can be undone
Hood deflector comes off
Trailer brake controller comes out

Bought after 2 leases (98 supercab xlt and 2000 Explorer 4 x 4 XLT). Leasing just isn't the good deal it used to be before Ford figured out what the real residual values were. I plan to keep this one a while plus I drive way more than 12-15,000 mi./year. That, and I plan a few mods which I'll never get my money back on.

My advice is to work toward getting out of the "lease cycle" if you can. Spread that up front cash you pay over the 24 months and you'll see just how much you are paying.

I guess part of it is a matter of preference also. Do you want to be in a new car every 2-3 years? I didn't think so a couple of years ago when I put $9000 dollars down to purchase a used but premium Grand Cherokee. It had the works, low miles, and enough power to take me anywhere I wanted to go. I thought this was the vehicle that I'd be in for the next 7-10 years. Not even 2 years into my payments before I fell in love with another woman: the Screw. I'm just as happy if not happier with my choice and although she might be going back to the dealer in a few years, it still feels like a car payment is a car payment and my habits dictate that I'll probably always have a car payment.

My point in asking about leasing is that I am overwhelmed by the members doing mods on their vehicles. It's intoxicating to hear the latest changes and upgrades. At somepoint you have to ask yourself, "Wow, I wonder if I can do the same thing to my truck" or "Can I make it better by trying this." I do realize dependig on the mods I'm not getting the money back. It's more than just being comfortable about what you're paying. For me it's first be comfortable about what you're driving and in terms of looks, performance, amenities and quality (yes I said quality) I've been more comfortable in my loaded Lariat than I've been in any other vehicle. I don't have 1 iota of insecurity about driving and turning heads in a such beautiful vehicle. I think we can all agree on that!

Buy the way, luv your King Ranch logical. That'll be the next one for me.

I got my Screw 9/7 and this is my first time leasing as well. I decided to try it because I feel it gives me more flexibility. Everytime I have purchased a vehicle with the intent of keeping it, but something always happens - it gets wrecked, I find something I like better, etc...something always makes me discontent with the vehicle. I have thought about leasing before, but knew I could not meet the 15K/yr mileage restriction. Ford will allow you to purchase additional miles up front for a reduced rate so I bought 10K extra miles up front. Now at the end of 3 yrs, if this vehicle has been wrecked or I just find something I like better I can trade up without facing the negative equity. If I wind up wanting to keep this vehicle then I can keep it. Seems like a good deal to me.

As far as mods go, I will probably keep the expensive ones to a minimum until I am more sure of what I want to do at the end of the lease.
