Bumper hole plug

For those of you who, like me, find the trailer hitch ball hole in the bumper to be unsightly, cheap looking and unfinished, you can order an insert to finish it off. The back end looks much, much better with this plug. I don't know why it is not standard on a Screw. I've seen them on Sport F150s, F250s and Expeditions but no Screws.

The part # is XL3Z-17D754-AAB for a black plug and costs $6.41 (for 25 cents worth of plastic!) - expensive but well worth it for the improvement in looks. You can get them in other colors (beige, fer sure) by changing the last 3 letters but you'll have to ask your parts man for the colors and codes.

I used silicone to hold mine securely in place....also makes
it harder for someone to pop it out

hitch cover

You can also get a rubber hitch receiver cover with the Ford logo like on the 02 Explorer for under $10.

John we are not talking about the receiver hole. We are talking about the hole in the bumper where a ball would go. Actually why does Ford include that hole on trucks with receiver hitches anyway? Why would you put a ball on the bumper when you have a receiver hitch? Penny pinching I guess.

Glue the plug

My01Bolt, after a few days, I got to worrying about somebody lifting my bumper plug so I applied a little black liquid rubber glue to my plug, too (two great paranoid minds thinking along the same lines!). The other reason I glued it in is because the hole in my bumper is off-centered and the plug barely covers one edge; the glue holds it over far enough to reach the edge.

The hole is in the bumper because not every one orders the tow package. I just wish Ford would include the plug to cover it, especially if you order the tow package and have no need for the hole.

Thanks for the link, but I am having lots of trouble finding it on that site. Apparently you found it (cause you have the price), can you tell me where it is? I tried entering the part number from above XL3Z-17D754-AAB but that dosen't seem to work either.

Thanks

I wasn't able to search by part number either. The best way I found was to search by keyword. Put the word "bumper" in the search window and then click search. You then will locate the plug, which is called an insert, towards the bottom of the list. The part number is 584355.

Cool thanks, thats what I'm looking for. Did you order yours from here, if so did the online transaction go ok? How long did it take to get the part?

Thanks

Actually I stole the bumper plug from another F150. Just kidding! No, I haven't ordered mine yet. I'm looking for other things to order from there besides a $2.30 purchase. I have never ordered from that site. But like the many other online transactions I do, I just "go for it."

I still can't nail down the beige color plug. Talked to Gary @ FPOL and he says Black only
