Question Roll-Top Covers

Anyone with a cover from www.pace-edwards.com?

How do you like it? Which model? how much did you pay? Easy to install?

Thanks,
Justin

jemlay,
Wlcome to the club.....
There is a pretty good search engine for previously posted topics. Here's a few I found on the roll top covers you might find useful. There are others also. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Yup, it sure did help. No way do I want a roll-top now. After looking at all the pictures and hearing about all the trouble.

Forget It!

The pictures look aweful and it does NOT seem like a good idea for a short bed. Loose 8"?!?!?!?! NO WAY! I dont have enough room as it is. And thats just side, then you also loose about 9" out from the cab! UGH! I figured I'd loose a little space but not that much.

Some of those people payed almost a grand???? My quote for a pace edwards was $600 installed! Maybe thats because of there new electric one I dont know?

I looked for a search and did not find it.....I see it now thou...Thanks Again! You saved me

I have the "Roll-N-Lock" brand on my short bed Chevy and I would not have anything else. That brand you are looking at isn't the same quality. I have had mine for 5 years, with no problems. Yes you do loose the 9" of bed space, but still being able to use the full bed with it open carrying bicycles and tall items is worth it to me. I hope you find a nice cover. For what it's worth, if I ever do buy a SuperCrew, I plan to put a fiberglass cover. I don't like the way the Roll-N-Lock has to be made for the Ford's due to the way the bed is much smaller at the rear than it is at the front.

"due to the way the bed is much smaller at the rear than it is at the front."

That is exactly why I dont like it. You loose WAY TO MUCH space when fitting a roll-top cover on the SCrew. My friend just got the electric one for his Chevy. Looks great with very little space loss.

Just not a good solution for the SCrew.

I'm at a loss of what to do. I need to "secure" my bed but I also dont want to have to keep removing and attaching a hard top cover when I need to haul tall items. I just bought the FORD Bed Extender and a BedRug. I dont want anyone messing with either. These roll-top cover are an EXCELLENT idea. It's just too bad the SCrew has a malformed bed.

jemlay,

I went through the same issues looking for a cover for my Screw. Didn't like the way the rolltops fit on the bed. Didn't like the way the fiberglas ones couldn't really be removed if you got somewhere and needed to take it off. Fabric covers look good, but are easily cut if someone wants in...

I ended up with the Advance cover. Hard cover with a hinge in the middle. Similar to the one on the Sport Trac. It locks. It is pretty much waterproof. Can fold it open to load tall items in the rear half of the bed. Or, I can take the cover off by myself in less than 2 minutes and put it in the bed with whatever I'm carrying. I've hauled motorcycles, refrigerators, other tall items. It doesn't interfere with the operation of the bed extender. Works for me.

Here's a link to the photos I took of the cover on my SCrew.

Looks good. Definantly worth looking into. What did you mean by pretty much water proof?

They don't advertise/guarantee it as "waterproof". I live in Houston, so it has seen its fair share of rain (we are up to almost 50" so far this year. Tropical storm Alison was 30" alone...) The only way I've been able to get water in the bed with the cover on is to face the tailgate and force water into the vertical edge of the tailgate. Not a "real life" situation unless you drive 55 mph in reverse. There is not a seal included, but I could get one if I really wanted to. All of the covers I looked at were the same. You need to get another seal for the tailgate.

I take it through the "premium" carwash around here about once a week and have yet to get any water in the bed. You can see in the two seals on the bed. The outside seal is pretty hard while the inside one is more flexible. The two provide a good mechanical seal. Here's the photo of the seals.

I think I paid around $500 for it in Houston. Installed myself. Here's their website www.advancecover.com.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
