Question Driving Light Install...

Looking for some ideas on wiring up my new fog lights. I have been lurking for sometime now and a lot of you come up with some great solutions, so I'll give this question a crack...

I have a 2001 SC w/o factory driving lights. As best as I can discern, the truck is pre-wired and has all the necessary relays and fuses installed. However, I do not have the "pullout" headlight switch with the fog light selection.

Has anyone figured out a way to utilize this circuit by either tying it into the main headlight switch or by adding an accessory switch, but still utilizing the preinstalled circuit? Or, will I have to purchase the correct switch from Ford to enable this circuit?

I have taken the best of previous threads and adapted them to installing the actual lights. However, I want to make sure I've looked at all the possibilities before I wire them up...

Thanks in advance...

Disappointed no one could help with my question, however, thought I would at least share my results. Took the best of what I've read / seen and put it to work...

Hey SCrewzin,

Too bad no one took the time to post a reply. I guess the question may have been to open ended but that is probably subjective.

Looks like you did just fine with the installation. Now the question will be if anyone else asks how to do it will you volunteer, I bet you will. Nice looking ride you got there too, I bet you're proud, "A"?

If it would've been me doing that, I would have probably opted to get the factory switch and the factory fogs but then I guess you would've needed to get the lower valance to install the factory fogs.

My $0.02 for what it's worth.

Thumbs up GOOD JOB!!

Totally agree with DAVEMAN.

Top notch job installing your fog lites!!! Did you just screw the mounting brackets to the lower? How about powering them...assume you went to the battery with an inline fuse and relay or something. Lastly, I really like that switch you used. Looks real factorylike! Where did you get it from & does the little white dot illuminate? Sorry for all the questions, just really impressed with the job you did and I have the same front end as yours.

Smile Thanks guys...

DAVEMAN: Thanks for the positive feedback and more than willing to help anyone looking to do a similar install.

HI SCREW: Again, thanks for the feedback. I created my own brackets using a similar method available in the Tech Articles "How To Install Fog Lights", just went one step further. I bolted directly to the bumper and created slots in the brackets so that I had adjustabilty fore and aft.
As for the wiring, I utilized the relay system that came with the lights. There is a hot lead to the battery and I tapped into the low-beam so that the fog lights power automatically with the headlights. I added the switch, allowing independent control when necessary.
Purchased the lights at AutoZone. Hella 1500's ($49) and the switch at a local RadioShack.Com store. They seem to have every type of switch know to man. I chose one that did not illuminate to spare the extra bulk in wiring.

I really enjoyed this install. For an aftermarket effort, I think the results are very clean and keep with the factory look.

HELP!!!!

SCrewzin, your just the man I'm lookin for. I'm installing some fog lights and I'm getting a little confused. I want them to come on automatically when the parking lights come on. (I'm not putting a switch in the cab). I know I need to tab into the positive parking light circuit to do this, but I'm not sure where or how to do this. Also, I'm not sure what I'm suppossed to tap into it with, The wire that would go to the switch??? Any help will be appreciated.

Good Looking lights!

SCrewzin,

Lights look great! I'm working on the same mod myself. I've been looking for some lights and now that I see what you used, I'm off to autozone....

Saw the brackets you were talking about. Working to get them made.

I can't find any info on the lights. Looked at the Hella site and can't find a model 1500? do you have any additional info on the lights? Would like to have the look that you got on your truck.

Thx for the information!

Driving Light Questions...er, Answers!

Hey Guys...appreciate the comments on the lights. You know...the one thing I really enjoy about this site is being able to learn from others as well as enjoying / sharing the results!

XLT SPORT:

1.) I pulled my wiring diagram and am at a loss on how to accomplish the install w/o the switch. Because I utilized the relay supplied with the lights, I'm not sure how to get around this. Can anyone else help with this question?
2.) As for the low-beam hot lead, just use a basic volt-meter and check which connection is "hot" in the low beam setting. Should be fairly straight forward to figure this piece out.

STRONGWIND:

Yeah, check with Auto Zone. I assume their inventory is the same across different markets. However, try the following link for info on the lights:

http://www.hellana.com/maineng/lev1b...bc/optilux.htm

The fall under the Optilux model line, part #88189. They also have some cool looking ones in "Chromium Electron Blue". They would look sweet with some PIAA cool blue headlamp bulbs.

You guys take it easy...let me know if I can help further.

Here's what I did!

SCrewzin
I'm sorry I didn't see your post earlier but I have been away on business for the past week.
I just finished installing a Lightning bumper cover on my truck and installed the lightning fog lights also before I went away. I have mine wired up to my factory switch. I have the same switch as you and all the factory wiring harness for the truck.
What I did is install a relay wired into my ignition wire on my truck and wired into my park lights.

When I turn on my park/headlights my fog lights come on also and everything looks factory. For wiring diagrams for your truck, to see which wire color is for what. Go to www.bulldog.com
Hope this helps!
