I have a 4.6 and just added a airraid,power tower, and a performance chip.I now have a terriable whistle when I slowly excelorate. I`am being told that thats the way it should sound. IS this true or did they not install it right

 

I have the Helix power tower and the airraid too. Mine does the same thing, it's pretty annoying. With just the airraid and nothing else you will get a "sucking" noise, sounds like a vacuum hose is loose. The whistling, at least on my truck, is caused by the power tower. The power tower "tornadoes" the air. That should be what is causing the whistle. If I remember correctly, when I installed it, the box even says that it may cause a loud whistling noise or something to that effect. Everyone that rides in my truck inevitably asks "whats that whistling noise"?

 

Hello gentlemen,

It's the throttle body spacer, anytime you use it in conjunction with any airbox elimination kit, you'll get that whistle. In fact, it's even mentioned in the documentation for that part, or at least, it used to be.

Just remove the throttle body spacer, and that whistle will go away. You won't notice much if any drop in power, most likely.

If you find the phone number for AIRAID, call and tell them what it is doing. Mine did the same thing, so I called. They sent me a little aluminum thing that looks like a donut. It slides into one of the tubes connected to the intake, and it has completely gotten rid of my "whistle".
