Question Electric Roll tops?

Pace Edwards makes an electric roll top called the BedLocker. I has an electric motor with remote and a bed light.

http://www.pace-edwards.com/bedlocker.asp

There around $1000 for the motorized one. I have emailed Pace-Edwards asking if this is avilible for the SCREW.

Has anyone delt with these? Are they any good?

Yes, they are available for the SCrew. I decided they were just to rich for my blood and decided on their Roll Top Lockable cover which is more than good enough for me.

I just recived an email back from Pace Edwards, it reads as follows...

We are working on the SuperCrew Bedlocker at this time. We hope to have it available by the end of Oct. No pricing has been set. The Roll-Top Cover is available for a suggested list price of $769.00.

So there you have it...

DCovell,

Odd, the local truck accessories place I go to for nearly anything said they could order it if I wanted, but I declined. So I don't know about the Bedlocker beyond that.

As for the Roll-Top cover, I got it for the installed price of $695 and in that price is included 2 hours of labor at $60/hr, so you can see what you should be able to get it for.

Do you like the Roll-Top cover? Also does it roll all the way back un-like the Retrax cover?

Any opinions you have on the Roll-Top would be appriciated including how strong it is (can you put stuff on it like yourself) also does it lock faily secure?

Thanks

DCovell,

Yes, I definitely like the Roll-Top cover. I previously had a tonneau cover that used snaps and another one that used a rubber bushing in a slot as previous experience. Those don't hold a candle to how much I like this.

It does completely retract all the way into the cover reel case. The case itself is about 5", maybe 6" thick and about the same deep into the bed. Has a nice semi-rounded cover on top.

As for weight the cover itself it can bear, I haven't really tested that one. I don't know what PE's claims are, but I don't think it would hold me without damage, though I am a pretty good size hoss of 220 pounds. It is solid though and you could set significant weight on it without damage. The aluminized frame is very rigid and the outer coating on top makes it very smooth and solid feeling.

When you use the lock, it engages into slots on each side that the roll-top slides in. No one would be able to pry it open without completely ripping the whole Roll-Top cover itself off, so it is very solid in that respect.

The other thing I like about it is that when the cover slides open, you don't have a rear brace you have to move out of the way to load anything into the bed.

All in all, it was a very good investment to me. I like it because I'm be able to secure items in the bed when I go somewhere whether it be tools or groceries. If I load something into the bed and it only occupies the rear part of the bed, I can close the roll-top to right up nearly against it with the multiple lock points. If I want to put something in the bed and be assured it isn't going to get wet even with heavy rain, I'm confident.

Have any more questions, please ask. It is a significant investment.

Great thanks, I asume by your last statement that it keeps things very dry in the bed, I belive it has drain hoses, correct?

Also do they clamp in or is it require drilling? And do you have any pics?

For what it's worth, I have the Roll-N-Lock cover and I love it! The one feature I like over the PE is it's ability to lock to the tail gate - it has another piece installed along the top edge of the tail gate, but it make a VERY solid locked/latched closure. Also, the Roll-N-Lock has a finger operated latch that can be opened and closed without a key. The other nice feature is being able to latch the cover partially open at 3-4 positions - the PE probably does the same thing. It is expensive, but probably one of the most useful upgrades I made to the truck.

DCovell,

Yes, very dry....no problems there yet though I've only had 2 rainstorms in the last week that I drove in with stuff in the bed.

Yes, I had them drill holes into those plastic plugs in the cab end of the bed and the drain hoses run through there.

No drilling at all....strictly clamp and a bit of industrial double stick tape.

No pics yet.......go figure.........soon though.

DCovell,

This is a Pace Edwards Roll Top, not a Retrax just so you know.

Yes, it does go all the way into the cover with the exception of the lip which is the handly you grab to pull it out.
