OK to use 0-20 oil in 5.4 2003 engine?

The manual says 5-20 weight oil. Am in North Dakota where winter temps get cold. We get weeks where 15-20 below zero is the high. Considering this can I run 0-20 weight oil in the engine without problems?
Am asking as have used it in other vehicles during the winter to help with flow in the bitter cold.

Don't want to harm the engine but cold cranking is a bit easier with the lighter oil.

I have always been informed that engine manufacturers take into consideration extreme heat or cold temps when determining what the viscosity of the preferred oil to be used is.
I have lived in Minnesota almost all of my life and always use the recommended viscosity (5-30 on my old Ranger, 5-20 on my F-150) This is my feeling on the subject. I'm sure others have a different one.

I wouldn't use 0w20 but I'd use 0w30.
