Unhappy King Ranch 4x4 with LT265/70R17s no option on 2002, know why?

Why does Ford do that?

Anyone know or care to guess why the LT265/70R17 tires are available on every single 4x4 SuperCrew combination except when combined with the King Ranch package?

Also, I think on the '01s, with the KR package, the ORP could be added as an option but I found out by entering a new '02 order that it cannot be combined with the KR for '02.

Why not?

Must be some marketing reason they want to keep the KR protected. They, the marketing gurus, apparently don't want to cobble-up the KRs like is possible on other setups with the XLT and Lariat.

Comments please!

Thanks,
DaveMan

maybe only a very small handful of king ranches ordered in '01 actually contained the off road package.

or ford figures that king rancher types aren't likely to go boulder hopping in their nearly 40k expensive vehicle?? just a thought...

Hey TroyK,

Long time since we ran into one another.

You are probably right that Ford determined that by popular demand, or the lack there of, the ORP combined with KR makes the option too expensive based on reduced sales volumes for that specific option. Then again, there may be some totally different reason they don't want to offer the ORP with KR.

I do occasional hauling of materials and pulling of a trailer and most of the time when doing either I load my truck down good. That is why I want the extra piece of mind with the LT tires combined with the KR. I guess I will have to upgrade the tires on my own if I must have the LTs which will cost a he// of a lot more than $300 that Ford charges. Probably will set me back over $150 each for five tires or $750, Damit Ford.

Still waiting to order that '02 screw. My impulsive side says go and order it yesterday. My logical side says wait until you see exactly what the '02s are going to look like and also maybe there will be some sort of promotion to kick-off the '02s.
Damn my logical side.

See Ya Later,

Yer givin logical a bad name...just order it.

one reason the ORP may have gone away on the KR is that it was redundant. You already have the 17" wheels, and if you get the tow package...you have the HD shocks.

The ORP is then reduced to skid plates and stickers.

Okay logical,

You got me on most of it but what about the LT tires I asked about. I like my logical side, it keeps my impulsive side in check and keeps me from making too many rash decisons.

Don't mean to refer to your code name "logical" in my replies using it. I do respect your opinions though and most of the time we are thinking along the same lines.

Good or bad, technical minds tend to anaylize things in a similar manner regardless of discipline.

Okay Troy,
You and logical are working hard on my impulsive side. Now that $500 is eating at my logical side and my impulsive side just took a bigger bite out of my logical one.

I guess I'm waiting also to part with my '00 Scab so I don't take a beating at the dealership on trade-in. Guess if I don't part with '00 soon I will just take a beating. At least the beating will be from a cowhide whip standard on KRs.
