Unhappy Sell your Super for an Avalanche !!!!

Well maybe not. Last night I rode in a Avalanche a friend of mine brought home for testing (He's a Electrical system engineer at GM) Anyhow It had a 8.1L engine in it and it flew!!! I have a 01 super with the 5.4L and I know this Avalanche would beat it. It is a 3/4 ton based on the suburban chassis, wether the half ton is based on the pickup line I don't know. While the looks are very hard to get over some of the features are actually kind of neat. with the flip down midgate and all but they really look cheap and it's hard to say if they would hold up after a few years. It looked to me like it would be one big rattletrap after awhile. ( I live on a dirt road that is usually rougher than ****.)

Also GM Hired Bob Lutz (Do you remember where he came from?)and what he is supposed to do is absolutely beat ford in total truck sales. He will force feed people trucks to get this done Because what my friend said that he said is that GM's trucks (Avalanche and Aztec) look like oversized kitchen appliances his words not mine and he will do whatever it takes to beat ford in total light pickup sales, soon.... So excpect big rebates and low interest on those trucks on the other team... Just thought someone would find this interesting........

P.S.
And there is no way I would give up my super for one!!!!!!....
Iin my opinion the super still has better build and higher quality.

Thumbs down

I've read alot of complaints on the mileage for the 8.1L engines: about 9-10 MPG. On the difference you save at the pump, you can slap a supercharger on your Ford and beat the Avalanche and still get better MPG's. Just my .02.

Well the 2500 you can get the 496, so this would be a good match up to the super duty diesel I have...

The 8.1 gets 9-10mpg,,my diesel gets 19.99...

I want to race one but cant find one to race...

The guy here has a 5.3 in his...guess what his other vehicle is???

YOU GOT THAT RIGHT A AZTEC......

Its amazing what they can do with plastic....

Hey guys this is an F-150 site, not a forum to discuss the pitifully ugly Chevy Avalanche. I guess no one can easily prohibit competitive discussion but I don't think the Avalanche is in any position to compete with what Ford's building. If you guys are really F-150 lovers then I am sure you should have lots of good things to talk about.

Wouldn't drive one (Avalanche or Aztec) if you gave it to me, would rather push my F-150 all the to work. That may sound stupid and I am sure I wouldn't push any car for long but the statement sure should let you know where I stand.

My 2 cents.

I saw Bob Lutz being interviewed on television. He said "fresh, new and ugly isn't going to cut it". He certainly had to be talking about the Avalanche!

Speaking of plasticy! My Only Complaint on the Screw is the Plastic Bed Rails. Does anyone know of any diamondplate covers for them? I throw stuff in the bed all the time and hate the scratches left in the rails... They really aren't all that "Ford Tuff"!

Hey torpedoJ2001,
Check out this web site, http://www.dawsbetterbuilt.com/showi...m?subcatid=10. I',m sure there are tons of other ones available but you will have to do a search. I just visited this site a couple of days ago and happened to remember seeing what you asked about. If all else fails, do a search on the net, most likely you will uncover almost every source for almost anything.

Good luck

My brother-in-law has a 99 Silverado which he calls a Silver-Rattle. Needless to say he is not thrilled with it. He has about 50k miles on it and it's defiantely a rattle trap.

Just in the $$ you save by buying and SCrew over an Avalanche you could slap on that suercharger before you ever put a gallon of gas in it.

Green,

I had a 99 Shakerado, GM bought it back after 6 months they could not stop it from vibrating. I'm not talking run of the mill vibration here, I'm talking: vibration shook the lock out of the drivers seat twice, once while my wife was pulling in the driveway, almost lost some teeth in that one. The center caps used to vibrate loose and fall off, the window motor vibrated out in the passenger door. I used to put a cup off water in the holder in the dash, at 43 MPH the water would jump straight out of the cup forming what looked like a standing waterfall. Let just say this: The fact that the truck was a peice of $h!T didn't bother me as much as the way GM acted towards me, they knew we had a problem and would do nothing to rectify it untill I used the lemon law, then they bought the truck back just before the hearing so they could sell it again and not tell the buyer it was a buyback. Can You Say: NEVER AGAIN?
