My Back is killing Me
I bought My Screw 7 days ago and my back is killing me. So I called Ford at 1-800-392-3673 Option 4 and told them about my back pain. they said that if other people our having the same problem they need to call if there is enough complaints they will fix it, you will need you VIN number when you call. I have posted this message because I see other threads about this problem and when I talked to Ford They said I was the first to complain to them. So Call them Guys !!! They will fix it they don't want to be sued for back pains. Please leave anote if your having the same problem.
me too
I too have back pain when in my seats. I have the front bench and I must have a gen III because my truck is only 3 weeks old. I tried to hammer the seats for a while to soften them up but this didn't help. I will call though and complain myself.
always screwed,
Please let us know if you have the 60/40 bench seats. I just took a Screw for a test drive on Saturday. I did not like the high/hard bolsters on the 60/40 seats. Very uncomfortable! I'm hoping that the Lariat Captain chairs are better.
Thanks

I've got the newest Gen bench 40/60 front bench and I love it, especially the bolsters. I'm glad I don't feel like I'm going to slide out of my seat position if I take a corner rather hard like I do sometimes.
If its uncomfortable, could it be related to a personal condition? I don't know, but I like them and as of day 13 ownership, my back never felt better. I'll call and compliment them.

I have a 60/40 split, and I do not think that they are the most comfortable seats. My stepfather can not be in one for 10 minutes and his back is in pain. He had to switch to chevy a couple of years ago. According to the 2002 specs, they changed the seats in the f150's. Maybe there is a problem.
To answer some questions to my first thread I do have a 60 / 40 split bench and it is a Gen III, I have owned a total of 4 ford F150 in my time last was a F150 extended cab with captain chairs, the others have all been bench seats, I have never experinced this problem with any auto that I have ever owned about 20 of them, the pain starts about 15 minutes after driving and will hurt the rest of the day and still alittle sore the next day I have drove my other cars for a while and the back stops hurting, only after driving my screw does my back hurt. I did talk to a back doc and showed him my truck and told him of my problem , His thoughts were these, since I'am a guy and like to drive with my legs apart and the new seat design makes you want to keep your legs together which makes you sit differently than in other cars, hope that makes sence, that is why it does not effect all people, not all people drive with there legs apart, but it also explains why other people complained about in the older seat design that they felt like they were falling out, for me that seat design worked for me because it gave me more leg room.

I think in the end that Ford did not take all people in consideration when they changed the seat both were bad but, in making one party happy they have hurt the other, they need to redesign and make a seat that works for both parties, surely this can be done. do you agree or disagree ???
AS,
That definitely makes sense. I kind of drive with my legs halfway and like being pushed to the center of the seat. I do miss having a single armrest instead of the center console, but the great tradeoff is that I get the Mrs. next to me while I drive and I enjoy that.
Thanks for the reply.

Lower Back Pain, Oh YES
I thought it was just me, until I read this section.
I had a 97 Exploader XLT before the Super Crew.
It had the same seata as the Mustang GT's of the late 80's early 90's, the ones with the electric air pump for the LOWER back bolster. I NEVER had lower back pain with that SUV on a long trip.
But the SCrew, different story! I have driven to Calif with a pillow doubled in half and shoved down to my power back.
I have put my day timer behind my back on trips to work, etc.
Just anything to put support in the lower seat back area.
The adjustment that is in the seat, seems too high up to do the lower back any good. I will call Ferd as 1st post suggested.

I probably would have bought the screw I was looking at if the seats were more comfortable. I tried the Cap'n Chairs and cloth 60/40 and neither were very good. My 97 expy was very comfortable, and my 95 Bronco is OK. Is there and aftermarket company producing replacement seats for the s'crew?
I have the Lariat Captains chairs and they are very comfortable to me, I have had it 2 months and took a 1500 mile trip in two days and was never uncomfortable.... I also had a 1999 XLT SC with the 60/40 and it was very comfortable too.
Hard as a rock seats, I agree.
As your code name and your bad luck implies, I guess you are just always screwed. I have been looking very close at an '02 4x4 screw and test drove an '01 just Monday. The only concern I have is with the seats and so I posted a thread on this called, I think, "What's up with the '01 seats" and you can find my thoughts there as well. I hate it that Ford changed the seats from what I have in my '00 Scab Lariat 4x4. I want a KR screw but I am really concerned about the milk crate feeling rock hard horse saddles in it and I am sure the same feel in Lariats with buckets.
Hope you back gets better and your seats get more comfortable.

I have the Supercrew split bench seats. I think they are Gen II ( build date 8/2000).
My back hurt for the first week or two that I had my truck until I found that adjusting the angle of the seat back up toward a more vertical angle got rid of it entirely. I was driving 2 hours a day and it didn't start bothering me until I had been driving for 20 -30 minutes. Just a slight change made all the difference. I think the adjustment in the seat back allowed me to change the fore/aft adjustment and the pedal positon also but I attribute the seat back change to getting rid of the pain. In the past 7 months I have since moved the seat all over the place and never had any aches or pain again.

Sounds like Gen 1-1/2 seats would work the best. My Crew was built 6/2000 Gen I with cloth captains chairs. I've always thought the seats were too mushy but have yet to experience any back pain on long trips.
A few weeks ago I noticed a hole in the driver side seat cushion. When I put my finger over the hole I can feel a piece of spring steel just under the seat fabric. The hole is about 4-5" from the front edge of the cushion under my left leg. Haven't scratched my leg......yet.
My guess is when I get in the truck and sit down the foam is depressed so much the spring has separated from the cushion and travels through seat. I weigh 210lbs and I don't "jump" or "slide" into the seat. I'm taking it to the dealer next week for this and the wiper motor recall.
My point is that the GEN I seats are too soft and I've heard several people complain about the hardness and/or lack of support from the GEN II/GEN III seats. They got lost somewhere between GEN I and GEN II IMHO.
