Electrical Connector

Hello,

While looking underneath my truck (2003 F150 Supercrew) to inspect the fuel tank straps I noticed an electrical connection (female) the kind where you push the other part in to it and the clip secures it. The connector is right on the fuel tank I think the wires are running under the fuel tank retention strap. However it isn't connected to anything (meaning the male part isn't there) So I was wondering if something is disconnected or is it there for an optional piece. Truck is running fins and nothing seems to be affected. Any ideas?
Thanks Jim

which side of the tank is the connector on? How many wires are in it?

My quick thoughts is maybe its for the optional running board lights.

What color are they. Fuse 1.15, 10 amp, powers circuits for running boards. See if it is hot and pull fuse to see if it is dead with lights on. It is the second fuse down on the left directly below the fuel pump relay.

Thanks for all the replies I finally got a chance to take some pictures of it even though they are not great. It looks like a factory connector and not something someone put in after the fact.
