SuperCrew A/C

This may not be the correct forum but lets try. I brought my S'Crew to the dealer today for service, squeak in the front end: they replaced 4 axle bolts, I haven't looked yet but am betting they really just greased the torsion bar bushings and replaced the bolts to get paid for something. Ok, the real problem.....My A/C is not really cold, i had a 2000 F150 R/C and the air came out at about 30-35 degrees...got real cold real fast...i know the cab is larger but the air is not as cold and it takes forever to cool down and dehumidify. The service advisor told me the spec temp. is between 45-49 deg F at the outlet. Can anyone confirm this or maybe some people can test thier sysyems. I will get a gauge tomorrow and see just what mine is. thanks for anyones time and help.

Ed

mine has been working exceptionally well. it even seems as if it works better the hotter it is outside...altho that is probably just in my head. really don't know what to tell ya. have they checked to make sure the compressor is cycling like it should? also, 30-35 F seems like an awefully low reading...it probably is more like 40 or higher...my nickels worth.

I had trouble with my Screw when it was new - it just wouldn't cool down very quickly. Technician found a pinched vacuum line in the dash which limited the amount of air blowing. Now it works great!

Mine has always sucked. I have taken in numerous time to 2 dealers, but no fix in over a year. I have to keep it on Max for it to cool well. Really takes a while to get going at first, but eventually cools ok. Around town does not cool worth a damn, but always get the "but it is in spec" from the dealer. My wifes 6 year old explorer cools a lot better.

Best A/C I ever had. Better than my 89 XLT S/C F150. If you are in it more than 10 minutes you freeze if you don't turn the fan down.
I thought it would be worse than ther 98 due to the larger cab size. Its a lot better than the 2 Aerostars I have had.

Mine cools great-even in the back seat, though I wish there were vents in the back of the console.
The best would be with a seperate fan like the
Explorer, but even ones powered by the front fan like the Taurus or Silverado(dare I say that) would be nice. The factory spec. calls for 40-50
on max-high fan, but temp. should usually be toward the 40 side. The air temp. is actually lower at lower blower speeds because the air has more time to give up it's heat to the evaporator.

I have had my screw for a little over a week. I traded a 98 F150 extended cab in for it. The a/c in the screw isn't nearly as cold as the 98's was. When it was 100 out the 98 would be ice cold within a minute. The screw never feels as cold even when it is only 85 out and you're going down the road. The 98 would feel much colder even at idle than the screw is going down the highway. I will have them check it when I get my free oil change done at 1500 miles.

RJ,

Welcome aboard and good luck with the new wheels. You can have them check, but I think Ford deals with all things the same way, ie: oh, no sir/ Ma'am, it is well within spec. for your vehicle. Its fine, your just not used to your new truck yet. Its fine really......lol

I am with you guys. The A/C in my Wife's Screw is nothing like the A/C in my 2000 Flareside. Even a guy I work with said something about his A/C in his Screw not as cold as his old ride. And my Wife says it's just me.

a/c mist?

While we are on the subject, I was wondering if anyone ever set the a/c switch on just A/C and not MAX. On MAX my SCrew a/c works fine, on a/c it blows a smoke or mist out and it doesn't stop until you turn it off or switch it back to MAX. Is this normal? Does this occur to anyone else? Thanks and by the way I just went through my first tank of gas. Driving anywhere from 0-90 I got 13.5 with no mods yet. I can't wait to get a new exhaust, FIPK and chip.

i've never seen mist come out of my a/c vents. however, a couple of times i've had what looks like white powder/dust come out of em. very strange, but someone here mentioned what it was, but i don't recall at the moment.

When the mist or fog come out of your a/c vents, it's either good or bad. If it smells like oil and kind of takes your breath away, you will soon be losing your freon and the air will become warm, or you have an excellent system (no oily smell) and it is getting so cold that it actually partially freezes up and is thawing out thru your vents and your air is always very cold.

Knock on wood, but my a/c is working great. I have actually had to adjust the thermostat to blow warmer in 90+ degree highway driving. Sorry to hear about so many problems... I am having no problems with mine.... just made the first oil change @ 3022 miles.

S'CrewLoose....ED,

I looked in the Ford Manual CD and the center register temp should read between 34 & 47 degrees with ambient temperatures at 90 degrees or below. For ambient temps above 90 and up to 100 degrees, the center register temp specification shows a range from 38-51 degrees. For ambient temps above 100, the scale moves up incrementally...it's approximately a 2-3 degree register temp increase for every 10 degree ambient temp increase, e.g., it should read 40-53 or 41-54 when the outside temp is 110 degrees.
I hope this helps to arm you when you go back to the dealer.
Good luck.....and let us know what they do for you.

Thanks for that info Area52, I just bought a thermometer and will check it out. On another subject, I am going to buy a shop manual for my truck, do you see any advantages in the CD as opossed to the hard copy? Andd can you tell me where you got it and how much you paid?

Thanks Ed
