Hear, Hear!

I paid extra for the "premium" stereo system with 6-disk CD changer.

System is pretty good, but not as good as I expected. I turned the bass all the way up and the treble down, but the bass response still leaves a lot to be desired.

Heck, I've got a PC at home that came with free Monsoon flat panel speakers and subwoofer that would probably blow the doors off the truck. I was expecting the same or more from the "premium" system.

I agree with TroyK......they're about the same as my son's Honda Accord DX standard speakers. One would think that a vehicle that comes standard with a CD player would have speakers capable of reproducing CD quality sound....I'm disappointed.

Boys, boys, PLEASE! Think a moment. When have you EVER bought a vehicle -- ANY vehicle -- that had decent speakers stock from the factory? Maybe in a Lexus or Benz. But certainly not in a truck. You pay a premium for "premium" sound that isn't. That's why it's infinitely better to opt for NO sound and go with aftermarket, because most folks do anyway. It's great for the manufacturer. Great markup. Maybe they installed system that looks great. But I've never had a stock system that has been worth more than, say, $50 bucks.

Angry

Well my 1998 Dodge Ram had Bose speakers and my 1996 eagle Talon had Infinty speakers, both premium sound packages. That sounded great!

I agree, the Ford system is far from premium!

Just one complaint that gets outweighed by several compliments though! My Talon didn't haul my dirtbikes and my Ram didn't haul my kids! but ford really should step up the speaker quality because they are chrging prmium price for sub par speakers in myy opinion.

I pay extra for the premium system. Not worth it. I'm going in this weekend to get a complete new system. All around. Hopefully will make a differance.

Actually one of the first things I will do is rip that crappy sound system out! The deck, the speakers, everything. I have never heard a sound system in a Ford that was even worth listening to.

My 94 f-150 has a bitchin' sound system in it, unfortunatly it also set me back about 4 grand... But hey it was worth it. Still runs like a champ today.

If you don't want to spend a bunch of money, get a small self powered sub, some replacement speakers to go in the stock locations, and a decent head unit. When you get into the seperate amps, and custom sub boxes etc and so forth, it can get really expensive really fast!

I figure that even an upgrade of just the deck and speakers will make it sound 100000000 times better. And it will only cost you around $500 bucks.

I wish Ford had an option of not having the stero at all and a credit of like $300-400 instead but that will probaly never happen.

If I recall correctly, when I took the factory paper speakers out, they said, "made in China". I suspected that the "upgrade" was also a waste of $ because it did not list a brand name, such as Infinity, etc. so they probably came from China too.
I took my aftermarket system out of my Dakota and put it in the Screw, but also had a woofer box made; now the truck vibrates at half volume. Total cost about $1,350.

Sundog:

I think the point people are trying to make is that in a $30,000++ vehicle the manufacturer could have pumped another $50-75 into the speaker system, buried it in the MSRP, and made a half million people happy....complimenting the system instead of bitching about it. They just don't get it........................

When I took the speakers out of my 99 SC, they said made in Mexico. I have always tried to avoid a "premium" sound system in a new vehicle because for that huge chunk of change you can get a heck of a custom job done. I put in 4 high range 3 way JVC's for about 200 bucks from Crutchfield. The package I got on my SCREW came with the premium sound so I'm having trouble convincing my wife to let me upgrade the speakers. My Neon has better speakers in it than the "Premium" (paper) Ford speakers. I think teh Rockford Fosgates will mysteriously end up installed soon.

I have just upgraded my SCrew's spkrs and threw in an amp. I agree with this thread that for very little Ford could do a whole alot more with the sound. The factory Head Unit does have great sound just need a little punch to run some decent speakers and you are in.

Hahaha, I'm glad I continued reading, I was just going to say..."Our 2001 Lexus IS300 has a wonderful sounding system"
