Smile New SuperCrew - what to do first?

Hello new friends!

Just picked up my 2001 Super Crew Tuesday (XLT,4x4,5.4L,Off Road,Trailer Package,Cargo cage) I'm looking for some advice as to what to do first. Think I would like some sort of bedliner, a torneau cover, and bug deflector for hood. What else should I be doing? Also, please share thoughts regarding your 1st couple of months with your Super Crew and regrets/or success stories you may have.

Thanks!

First, pull those "off road 4 x 4" stickers off, they peel right off. They are just my pet peeve. as you are doing it keep in mind that if like me, you also have the trailer tow package, you already had most of the stuff in the ORP (3.55 rear, HD shocks, the KR already gives you 17" wheels....what's left?. As near as I can calculate, we pay $450 for a few $20 skid plates and the stickers. Never would have ordered it this way but got a good deal on the left-over 2001.

Anybody else think the ORP is a bit of a scam? Not really complaining....I knew it when I bought it, but you would think they would give you a price break when you combine these packages. They do at least seem to cut it down with the wheels and tires already upgraded because i think the ORP is like $950 on an XLT.

This really wasn't what you asked, but felt like ranting.

Thumbs up

Congratulations! You will absolutely love this vehicle. I recommend the K&N Air Filter first. This is easy and very inexpensive. Because you're probably still in the "break-in period", you may not notice the increase in gas mileage, but it definitely helps. Then, I would go for the "cat back" exhaust. A little more pricey, but will help the mpg's. This is my second 5.4L F150. The first one was a 98 extended cab and I installed the FlowMaster 3 chamber muffler. I did not like it because it produced too much noice in the cab. With this 01 Screw, I chose the Gibson system and like it much better. It still produces the sound you want out the pipes, but the interior is very quiet. I am now considering sound system options.

Best of Luck,

Tommy

Cool

Congrats nicka!
First thing I did was have a spray-in bedliner installed. I went with Rhino, and couldn't be happier. Next, I got a soft Tonneau --Extang BlackMax. That too, has been great. And finally, I removed the running boards and installed chrome step bars.
I too, want to do something with the exhaust, but that will come later. For now, just enjoy the power of your new SCrew!

Good Luck with the new wheels

I put in a drop-in liner, I think I would go with the Rhino next time, as a matter of fact, we are just up the road from each other, if you want to go with the drop-in, let me know....we'll make a deal. I got my soft cover from a Rhino dealer, I like it ok, drove 6153 mile with it on and it has held up fine.

As far as the first couple of months, I know i'm the exception but I have driven my crew 9500 miles in 2 months and have not had any major concerns. My A/C is not quite cool enough and I have a little squeak in the left front. other than those, it is a great riding truck that you can stay behind the wheel of for very extented periods of time with not pains.

Cool Hi

Save your self a lot of headaches don't change your vehicle. Not even the air filter.
Put a soft cover over the bed change the oil and filter every 3000 miles and lube it.

Remember there are a lot of vendors here trying to get you to spend money on mods that your truck is not designed for.

Enjoy!!!!

Does my billet radio antenna void my engine warranty?

Was my rear view mirror designed with adequate structure for fuzzy dice?

Do whatever you want to your truck....even if all you want to do is toss a soft cover on it.

geeeeeeeeeze

Cool

Nicka,

Congrats! You'll love it.

$ always determines a lot of things. Are you on a budget or not?

Then there's "needs" vs. "wants".

I "wanted" a good stereo system and tires. Those faux AT's that Ford offered were too conservative. I "needed" rubber floormats ASAP, mudflaps to keep the mud off of my new paint and tailights and nerf bars to get in/out of the beast. I read that if you slide off of the seat, you'll make it sag on that side.

Have fun, the sky's the limit!

NB: SuperCrew2001red5.4,
stock vehicles are built to save the Co. $ and meet the minimum requirements of consumers. Some people just drive their cars and use them as a tool to get from A to B and don't care that they can't tell their vehicle from another stocker parked next to it, while some us are "into" our vehicles and personalities and want them to look and perform at their best and maybe enter them in truck shows, hence all the xtras. Caveat Emptor, not everything is mechanically sound, like putting the largest sized tire on that will fit. Research is required before changing anything on your truck.

Enjoy your new truck but;
Leave the mechanicals stock until your warranty is up.
It's just my .02 cents here, but I get a kick out of you guys altering the OEM equipment, then cry like a baby when Ford denies you warranty coverage. I would too! That said,
a bud deflector, bed liner and mud flaps are a good place to start.
There are some really cool caps and " lids" out there. The ARE brand is popular. Have fun!

Well, I think it IS possible to modify your vehicle and still not void your warranty.

First - RESEARCH! I put a Superchip in mine and I'm not one bit worried about it. Superchip is confident enough in their product that they will fight for the customer if the dealer tried to play silly games. Further, there are Ford dealers out there selling and installing them.

Second, find a Ford dealer that has an aftermarket services department. They're out there, and you'd be surprised at what they will do for you, under warranty! Unfortunately you have to trust your vehicle to someone else, but you just have to check 'em out and take a look at some of their past work.

Those awesome Rousch F150's and Mustangs don't roll off the assembly line looking like that, they're done in Ford authorized shops. I had a buddy that bought a Mustang GT and had the Stage II kit done.

You just have to be careful. Personally, I've just gotten started on my truck.

You're just around the corner from me.....and it's hot outside.

First thing to do....buy a water toy...jet ski, boat, etc. Tow it to the closest lake or ocean launch (there's plenty within 12 miles) and cool off. You'll love it....guaranteed! ENJOY the new ride.

Hey neighbor, Enjoy your truck and perform the mods that make you happy and don't ruin your budget. I have been slow to start with my mods but there is no reason to wait until the warranty is finished. You are protected by the Magnuson-Moss warranty act. The burden of proof is on the dealer to prove that the mod you performed caused the item to fail. This is quite difficult for them to do. I have installed my Stull grille an I love it. Changes the whole front end. The only warranty Ford can deny me is for the surround because I cut it to fit the new grille. My next mod is BellTech 2" lowering shackles. I am also looking at the Flowmaster Force II exhaust and the Airaid intake system.
