Question tranny noise

I have a '01 Screw lariat / 5.4liter / 3.55 limited slip / Class 3 tow pkg just over 1,000miles on it

I notice a subtle clunk when accelerating after slowing --- it is kind of like when it downshifts after coasting to slower speed and then when power is gently applied again (like when approaching a red light that turns before you get there.....or coasting into a 90degree turn then reapplying the gas)

has anybody else noticed this noise.....should it be a cause for concern.. this is my ifrst Ford and I do not want to be concerned with someithing that is normal.

thanks for your input

Mike

I had this problem. 3 bolts ended up working their way loose from the cross member. Dealer fixed it, haven't had a problem since.

My 2001 XLT 5.4L,3.55LS, Off Road, Trailer Package has that same sound. One week old, with 500 miles on it! I'm listening carefully for a while and will report it to dealer at 1st oil change or sooner if needed.

You described it perfectly. I also hear it when slowing, going up a steep hill, foot off gas, then back on, and "Clunk"!

Stay in touch as it develops. (nicka@netway.com)

nicka,

I know exactly what your talking about. Do a search under "tranny thunk". You should find alot of messages from the past (I hope). I have the same condition. Haven't solved it yet. Of course the dealer says it's normal. B.S.
