Fifth wheel towing
Can the F150 Supercrew be equipped to tow a fifth wheel trailer? I have a small lightweight fifth wheel trailer which I am presently towing with a 1999 F150 Supercab V-6. I want to upgrade to a Supercrew (for the extra room in the back) with a good-size V-8 engine. However the dealer told me the box is too short for a fifth wheel hitch? Over at Chrysler, the dealer told me that the Dodge Dakota (with only a 5'4" box) could pull my fifth wheel trailer. Isn't the Supercrew's box longer than the Dakota's? Any comments with regard to the capability of the Supercrew towing a fifth wheel trailer of about 4500 lbs would be greatly appreciated.

It depends upon the nature of the trailer you plan to pull. If you are talking about pulling a 5th wheel gooseneck trailer, then there would not be a problem since the gooseneck will not come into contact with the cab even on a tight turn.
But, if you are planning on pulling a 5th wheel camper trailer, then it probably won't work. The problem is that there will be insufficient clearance between the trailer and the truck cab. The trailers are designed for a short bed at a minimum, and the overhang in front of the ball hitch is too much for the SuperCrew bed length.
