Grill Insert Removal?
I am thinking about getting a harley grill insert to replace my honeycomb one I have now. How hard is it to remove the insert without damaging it. Do I have to remove the surrounding painted part?
Thanks

Yes it would be say 1 to 2 hour job if you have never done one before. You would need to remove your park lights from the corners and then remove your radiator splash shield which surrounds your hood latch, then you would need to remove I think either 5 or 7 black headed screws which actually hold the grill onto the grill support, then you need to grab a push pin tool like a screwdriver with crows feet maybe a trim tool as some call it and up under the outside corners between the bumper and the grill surround you will find 4 or 5 more push pins shoved up into the grill sheel you need to remove them also. Almost there then grab your neighbor, your wife or one of the kids and back behind the honeycomb insert you will see looking down behind the grill there will be 2 tabs one on the left other on the right, these are somewhat spring loaded and you will need to compress these to release the grill shell, BUT BE CAREFUL IF YOU BREAK ONE THIS IS WHAT HOLDS THE GRILL AND A BROKEN ONE WOULD ONLY CAUSE A VIBRATING GRILLE GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. As far as the insert use a screwdriver and start on side and work the clips loose from one side to the other. Just remember you are working with plastic, take your time and go easy, your labor is cheap, parts are another issue.
