New SCrew
New SCrew
Brothers (in Ford):
I broke down and parted with my 2001 Supercrew (2WD, Gen 1, 5.4L, Slider, Torreador Red). It had 95,601 miles on it since buying it in March of '01. Edmunds said it was worth about $5500, but It had this ugly crease in the body from a "rub" with the bumper of an F350 Duallie in a parking lot. My friend is a body shop manager and he guessed it was about $2500 worth of damage. The window still rolled down and the weatherstrip sealed (but it nagged away at me).
The check engine light had come back on about a month after replacing the plugs last fall. I've never had to repair the truck (only fluids, brake pads, tires, etc), so I figured It was time to retire it "healthy".
Of course I wanted another Supercrew. I found a dealer willing to give me $4500 for her in trade for a 2011 (at X-plan). Add the 0% financing, and I was SOLD!
So my new ride is a 2011 F150 Supercrew XLT 5.0 4X$ (Candy Red Clearcoat)with XLT Convenience pkg, XLT Plus pkg, 36 gallon tank, Tailgate Step and XLT Chrome Pkg (18 in wheels). I found an Integrated Trailer Brake Controller on E-Bay for $145, installed it myself, and paid the dealer $80 to enable it.
I have been pleasantly surprised with the fuel economy. My old SCrew averaged 12.8 MPG in the city with my record run at 20.6 (Baltimore to Maine). This new one is averaging 14.7 around town. I pull a 31 foot Rockwood Trailer and cruising range has always been a handicap. My towing economy has been between 8.7 and 9.6 MPG (depending on destination). I could never make it to Williamsburg, VA (about 230 miles) on a tank. With 36 gallons (and a possibility of exceeding 10 MPG while towing), I think I've finally gotten my perfect truck.
