Question

Looks awesome! Where did you buy your system and where did you mount the DVD player?

Where did you get that done? Looks like they did a good job on the install into the seatbacks.

I saw them on the Kenwood site. Very expensive MSRP. Looks like about $6000. I guess I won't be adding this very soon. hyacinth, you are one lucky rascal! Very cool mod!

Thanks for all the compliments. So far I'm happy w/ the system and I felt that the installer did a competent job. The DTS processor w/ the center-channel speaker really makes a big difference when watching movies or listening to DTS-coded CDs. Incl install, the system was around 6K. Now I'm deciding whether to add an alarm/remote start system. Any recommendations? Will an aftermarket alarm override the factory keyless entry?

Have a cheaper system

I like the system. I found a system in Summit Racing catalog for $600. It does not have a DVD player, but standard VCR. The great thing is that the system has a built-in tuner so I get local TV stations as well (depends on reception). The unit is a flip-down TV from the ceiling. I had the guy move the interior light forward and mounted it behind the light. It also has 2 wirless headphones, so you can listen to the radio and the kids can watch the TV. If you want to listen while driving, it has an FM modulator that broadcasts through the radio. Contrary to popular belief, there is no engine feedback from my unit. The installer was able to mount the antenna for the system in the windshield, tucked up into the headliner, can't even see it. You can add a DVD on to the VCR if you wish, so then you have both. I also had the guy plug some "pigtails" into the back of the VCR so I can play Playstation as well. I mounted the VCR in the console next to the 6 disc changer. It is VERY sharp. It is also remote controlled, the sensor pokes out the back of the console. With installation I have about $950 into it. Took my 'Screw on a 10-hour trip with a 2 year old and it was a LIFESAVER. If anyone wants more information, get me at bmandaurora@aol.com.

What about an XLT with no center console? Where else can a DVD or VCR fit? We have a video system in our Windstar SLE, and want to have it in SCREW for the camping trips!

Help without a center console

If you get the Performance Products catalog, they have a drawer that can mount underneath the seats. I'm not sure if it will fit under the passenger seat or not. If so you could put the VCR in there and slide it out when you need to change videos , then back when done.

hyacinth:

Here on the East Coast, the top-of-the-line security/locator system is Lo-Jack...but it's probably not yet expanded as far west as San Jose. There are several models available, I have the System 5 which integrates to the SuperCrew exceptionally well. Make certain that what ever system you get ( because I know from first hand experience) does not de-activate other features in the vehicle, such as:

- de-activate capability to shut off auto lock/open sequence.
- dis-able interior and exterior cab lighting when opening with remote if system is de-activated.
- Alarm always self activates after 30-45 seconds unless de-activation sequence is used, which requires positioning key to "on", holding in the red alarm indicator light left of steering wheel, for 3 seconds.
- can it integrate to your existing remote or is a second required (a royal pain in the keyster)?

The big message here is......shop very carefully.
