Talking That Expy console chnage thing - ugh !!!!

Man what a deal. I love it but its a lot of work.

First eveything had to be cleaned - Darrin was right about dirty.

Second, the S'crew CD bracket does NOT fit the older style console, which I got so I could use my arm rests. The CD chnager trim piece doesn't fit either.

Third - the console is not all the way down on the floor - not sure why but I sure can't tell in the dark.

Fourth it seems "loose" or "wobbly" not completely tight.

Great idea but I don't think I'm there yet.

Mine took a few hours to get it all in there secure. I know what you mean about the console sitting up off the floor a little but when do you look at it from an angle that you can tell? Mine was a little loose at first too because one of the screws that went into the front plate was stripped. Make sure all 4 bolts are secure through the plates and then make sure that all four screws (two in front and two in back) are secure into the plates. Mine will not even budge now. Check out my signature for my Expy console FAQ for an answer to the CD changer bracket. FedExPilot wrote a post concerning that issue.

the S'crew CD bracket is different. I had to run mine thru the radial arm saw and take off about two inches. It was to high and there is a storage compt in the concole lid that hit it. I'm going to Ford dealer today to look at an Expedition and to figure out what might work in the hole in the back. Daughter wants cup holders. My console has a DC outlet in it which I'm going to parallel into the one in the back seat.

Guard Rail;
I think Blue Flareside was trying to point you in a different direction. Here's some cd changer info from a previous post. Basically: Screw console = supercrew cd changer bracket and Expy console = Expy Cd changer bracket.
Here's the extract (first) and the link ....
FedExPilot Posted this 08-18-2000 06:59 PM:
"The SuperCrew center console CD changer mounting bracket will not fit in the 98/99 expy console. Went to my friendly Ford parts counter and ordered a cd changer bracket for the expy. Cost was approx $24. There is also an add'l trim piece - - along the lines of the SuperCrew setup. It costs approx $54 but is not necessary...I couldn't find an oem bracket on the internet and there were no suitable expy's in the local junkyards to cannibalize."

actually the S'crew CD chnager bracket is in there right now, albeit somewhat shorter coutesy of my radial arm saw.

I ordered the Expy bracket yesterday - $13.51.

Today I wired the outlet in the console into the outlet in the back seat and painted a piece of styrene sheet to fill the hole in the back.

Cool

I'm working on putting the radio controls in the console to control the factory radio right now. I had to search the world over to get the cable that I needed. I have a copy of the EVT circuit diagram comming also to hook it it up. I know that the place I got my cable from has one left. You cannot get this from Ford and need it to make this work. I 'll let everyone know when I get it done.

Question Where are you guys finding these consoles

I was just wondering where you guys were finding these Expidition consoles? I have looked in all the junk yards around and came up empty. I would prefer a new one if they are not too expensive. I found one on ebay for a Blackwood, they are pretty much the same aren't they? It was sweet too. It had a 7" monitor mounted in it and i dvd player. But the price got really high, really high. Any way if you guys could tell me where to get a new one, i would most appreciate it. Thanks for all the help guys.

I fount mine on ebay recently for around $150. The only downside is they didn't include the brackets that you use to mount it to the floor. I'm having no luck finding the part number to order them either. Can anyone help me out with that? Thanks
