question about king ranch edition
those of you who have the king ranch s-crew...are u happy with the captians chairs in the back? i'm likely gonna trade in my 01' and get an 02' s-crew this fall and am having a hard time deciding whether i should go with the king ranch or the lariat with bench back seat. i don't typically carry alot of people, but the captains chairs in back could be a hinderance if and when i carry more than four folks. thanks for any input you can provide.
I've got a blue King Ranch. I love it. You are right about more than 4 people, though. Unless you stash some in the bed, 4 is it. I have 2 small children (7 and 4) and like the way they are separated by the rear console (which also provides storage for books and tapes).
The rear captain's chairs are quite comfortable, too. I took about a 2 hour drive from Islamorada to Key West with my Dad and brothers in it. My dad is 6' and my brothers and I are all over 6' 2". Even the back seat passengers remarked at how comfortable the seating was.
I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I do wish the color selection were a little greater because frankly I didn't care that much for any of the KR colors. I would have gone for white or torreador red if I could have.... But I figure I spend a lot more time inside looking out than outside looking in and I love the high-quality leather and the layout.

geoff,
i also must admit to being sorta turned off by the exterior colour selection for the king ranch. ford also is limiting the colour selections on the lariat. for instance, you can only get torreador red on the xlt and no others! however, i am partial to the two tone treatment on the king ranch as well as the color keyed running boards, etc. seems to make the truck look classier than the lariat or xlt. i originally didn't like the leather in the kr...however after some familiarization, it is growing on me in a good way. i'm gonna check out the new 02' dodge quad cab this fall. unless it is love at first site/drive, i'll probably be sticking with ford and getting another s-crew. and this time i'll get the options i wanted but didn't get on my current 01!

TroyK beat me to the punch, I was going to ask this very evening how KR owners liked their truck.
gcsherwood,
Thanks for the info, my local dealer has a KR that's been sitting on the lot for a loooonnng time. If he's ready to price it to sell, I'm interested. Sounds like you really enjoy yours and I think I'd also enjoy one.
I haven't had a chance to go through the inside of one yet, so I was curious as to where they stashed the CD changer. Please tell me they put it in the front console!
Anyway, if my dealer is ready to play, I may own a KR tomorrow evening.

I bought the King Ranch Edition just for the color. I got the Estate Green. I happen to like the limitation of colors for this model. The c.d. changer is in the front console. I have 1 wife and 2 kids, therefore only need four very comfortable seats. 15 weeks, 9200 miles, not one problem. Buy it!

It all comes down to how you like those captains chairs, and if you need the extra room. I needed the extra room, so I opted for the Lariat. It is just as comfortable, but the KR leather is nice too. Good luck with the dealer, hope you get it.

Well, guys, unbelievably I was able to actually reach an agreement with the dealer. After an unreal amount of time spent there today, I was able to drive home my new Estate Green KR screw. I gotta say this truck is nice. I AM NOT looking forward to forking out that payment once a month, though!
One thing I see is that although the running boards are nice, since they're there they surely will get used as a cab steps. I don't see the tops of them holding up to gritty shoes very well. I was toying around the idea of neatly covering the tops with something like that gritty friction tape. It would be replacable and if cut neatly, should look good. Anyone got any other ideas?
dbdunn,
Sorry for taking so long to get back, been away from my personal 'puter for a while. Sometimes work has a habit of doing that! Anyway, to answer your question, the dealer is in Rocky Mount. I might have gotten a better price at another dealer, but it couldn't have been much better, based on my pre-purchase research. Plus I must say they didn't try to sneak any extra fees in on the deal. They had one "fudge" fee plainly listed on the contract, and trust me, I busted their chops pretty hard on that one.
At one time they had four KR's: two greens, one blue, and one 4x4 chestnut. After today, they had no greens but the others were still there. If you're bugging for a KR, and think you might drop by and talk to them if you're ever in the area, let me know, I could e-mail you with what you might expect.

I traded in my '97 F-150 for a '01 King Ranch and love it. I was also concerned about the limited seating, but to tell you the truth I can't remember the last time I ever had more than four peoople riding in my '97 F-150. Will they be making a King Ranch in '02? I thought they were only making 10,000.
Also, does anyone have trouble with the moon roof shade closing after hitting a few bumps on the road? After every few miles, I am constantly having to open the shade and
it is starting to be a nuisance.

I love my King Ranch, except for the fact that some a$$ rear ended me Friday night. I could have killed him, and almost did, but I had to think of what would happen if I did... I wouldn't get my truck fixed.
I have never had the need for the one extra seat in the back. It's just an excuse to not drive it around because I can't fit that many people in it. I have the Charcoal Blue one, and I love the color. I also love the seats. Only 8 weeks old, 1500 miles, that's why the accident hurt so much

Yeah, me too. All I have to do is put on the brakes and it slides partway closed. Obviously this isn't a problem when the roof is open, but summer in Florida is not conducive to this!
Besides, it is so bloody loud when it's open....

You know, people just don't have any concern whatsoever these days. If they don't get you in motion, they'll leave a shopping cart in the parking lot to roll into your truck.
Here's a prime example. Today I went to my local home improvement store - of course I parked in the back 40. On the way out, I was glancing over at someone's white 4x4 Lariat parked just as far out. There's literally dozens of empty spaces between the Lariat and the front door. Here comes some idiot in an old white work truck and parks right next to the shiny new 4x4. Folks, the guy parked his Lariat that far out and walked to the store to avoid having someone park next to his truck, correct? I wonder what in the world prompted that guy in the work truck to choose that one space over literally dozens closer. Makes no sense.
Sorry to rant, but sometimes I just can't help it.

Geez, another thing not wrong with my truck; a loose moonroof shade? Mine never moves unless I move it or open the moonroof. Yeah I've got a pretty large payment too but it's only about $25.00 a month more than the Lariat I was going to buy. I've had my last Ford over ten years and have passed it on to the wife to drive. In ten years I'll be doing the same again. Sorry to here about your crash, I was rear ended sitting at a stop light a few years back. It sux.
