Screw won't upshift - at wit's end

Lately my (5.4L FX4) truck will not upshift and rpm's are very high (3000rpm) when stopped or in N. This most often happens after a high power downshift such as passing or accellerating hard into traffic. It will continue to downshift tho, and I end up driving around in low gear.

Usually by pulling over and shutting down, it clears. Or bumpping the truck into N if on the highway, gunnung it several times usually clears it.

Anyone had this problem? It is not throwing any codes, but then I have never had it not clear up by turning the truck off 1ce or twice. No professionals have been able to diagnose.

stupid question, but have you checked the fluid in it? auto trannies can do WIERD things if they dont have enough fluid.

Its an 2002. The transmission fluid level is spot on.

One more comment, the engine really revs during this phenomena, whether in park neautrl, of drive. in neutral it will sit up around 3000rpm.

Gonna see another tranny guy next week.....

Generally, no codes. ONE time it had this problem and was coding. We weren't sure if there was a relationship. The code was - how did my mechanic say? - a conflict between mass air and throttle position. Not a MA code or a throttle position code, but a issue/conflict between the MA (sensor) and throttle position.

ok that makes no sense. is there anyway you can pull codes yourself? it might have thrown a code but not set off a light yet. has it done it anymore. it might be a "conflict" with a shift silenoid or maybe something to do with the valve body. i dont know. wish i was more help, sorry pal
