Post Any Piston Slap on 2001 5.4l?

I posted this question on the Engines board but got far fewer responses than I thought I would. I figured I would post it here too because you guys are always more willing to respond.

There is alot of evidence of PS in older 5.4's. It was supposedly fixed in 2000, but there were still instances of it. Have any of you 2001 5.4 owners experienced it and how many miles on the engine so far?

Thanks! This is obviously important to those of us who haven't bought yet...

Thanks PSlappinSCrew. Figured I'd get more responses from all the 5.4 owners. Must be reluctant to say "NO" and jinx themselves. Can't say I blame you...

Basically the pistons are too small or misshaped when the engine is cold. On startup they slap against the sides of the cylinder walls. Do a search on this site for "Piston Slap" and you'll get lots of info on it.

LOL! Leon, don't do it!
I did a search on 'Piston Slap' and the lights in my house dimmed.
(My fridge still hasn't come back on)

Read this one first,

then see how much more you can stand...

Haven't heard anyone else on this...

It is clear what the ramifications are if your engine has PS. What isn't entirely clear is what % of new engines have this. I love everything about these trucks but don't want to spend $30k to get this problem. I would like to think that it is a minority of ownership that is very vocal because of the seriousness of what has happened to them, and that the odds are that it won't happen to me/you. (It seems the # of posts on this topic is small since 2000 and it seems to be the same folks discussing PS/FQR's rather than lots of new incidences.) Should I stay away from this engine/truck? (Then again, even Tundra owners are experiencing PS now.)

Please, please, please throw in your $.02!!!

Mine slaps on cold startup in the morning. Just started a month or so ago. (About 15k miles.) Last about 3 to 5 seconds. D*mn!

No piston slap, or any other unusual noises. It is actually quietier than I thought it would be. But then, I have only 3,000 miles.

I think it would be a shame to spend 30 to 35K on a new truck and the pistons slap the sidewalls of the cylinders. That can't be good for the cylinders or rings or pistons. I would be will to bet that any truck with this problem will never see 100k miles without blowing smoke out the exhaust. I want a SuperCrew bad, but to be honest they scare the heck out of me. At least my Chevrolet is reliable. Approaching 177k on it too.
